If tires could be retreaded with urban mythology, they'd last longer than the cars on which they were installed.

All Fisher and Teknetics metal detectors are made in the USA just 3 miles up the street from my apartment. Same is true of nearly all BH metal detectors.

Many years ago under the Los Banos regime, a few low-end Fishers were made in Taiwan, I think it was the 1212 and the 1236. Taiwanese did a better job of it than the Old Fisher, but the cost was higher (not lower as you might think).

Several Tek and Fisher models have been counterfeited by Chinese counterfeiters. (It ain't just us, some of our competitors' products have also been counterfeited.) Very few counterfeits have been imported into the USA because the risk of confiscation and civil and criminal legal action just ain't worth it. In Africa where enforcement of law isn't very dependable, one-on-one "Islamic justice" has put a few dealers in counterfeits permanently out of business. There have also been several big busts higher up in the counterfeit distribution chain. One kingpin who thought he had everyone bought off, found out differently and rather than to deal with him in the country where was busted, they sent him to a neighboring country where he'd failed to pay his taxes (so to speak). One with a really bad record of human rights abuses. If his head is still attached, he's probably writing Dick Cheney claiming to be a terrorist and begging for the CIA to capture him and haul his butt to Guantanamo.
