Question on SE, Does it have a ferrous mode or something similar?

I've read what I could find on the new Explorer SE from a couple of forums, But didn't see anything about searching with the audio ferrous mode.

As with the Explorer, Ferrous mode allows the user to search with iron mask set at 16- "negative" allowing all signals to be heard while still allowing the user to avoid iron signals with the lower tone.

Does the new Explorer SE have this type of setup? Any information on this will surely be appreciated.

Thank you,
Paul (Ca)

Paul,
Yes, It is the same. Iron Mask, Renumbered from -16 to AM(all metal), -15 to 0 is now 30 to 16.

You can still run in ferrous target id tones also if you would like. You can see picture's of IronMask at link

That will be the mode I use "ferrous audio mode" as with the regular Explorer, Also curious to try out the Pitch Hold mode which is similar to the Sovereign threshold but most likely use Normal and continue to use the ferrous audio mode with iron mask set at zero or near zero if the mineralization allows.

Thanks again Joe, Looks like allot of new neat features to play with :)

There is a few thing we notice while doing a few test in my bar. We both thought the screen was a little easier to see, but it could be we were indoors. I feel when switching from Smartfind to digital the numbers or cross hairs were faster responding. This is when switch from one to the other as with the older Explorers you seem to have to wait 5 or more seconds before the meter would respond. I thought the meter did also react faster too so when we run a target by the coil the numbers or cross hairs were a bit faster displaying. Like I say we were doing air test. Now putting a quarter on my floor that is full of nails I felt the SE responded to the quarter better and locked on most time with the correct ID on the meter, but not 100% of the time, but enough to know it was a good target it seen. Turn on the iron mask to all metal and set the tones to ferrous and felt this SE worked better than any of the others Explorer I had done this too, the nails shows nails with a low pitch and when it went over the quarter it was a high pitched and the digital numbers showed 0-29 and 3-29 most of the time. went to pinpoint to see how that will work and in a trashy ares such as this floor with all the nails it will take a bit to get used to it,but what I thought was nice is it will ID in point mode so when you have the coil centered over the target you get a ID too.
Tried the tone hold option and see where it will get a reg tone like normal, but when the threshold comes back it is a higher tone and a louder threshold. One thing we seen was if it sees a quarter then run iron by the coil the iron will null and come back with the same threshold it had with the quarter instead of a low growl type threshold like the Sovereign have over iron. What we need to really do is use the SE outside in actual hunting conditions and see what it will do. Not sure if this one is sold and the rest are back ordered or I would have sent this SE with James and see what he could do in a couple of days with it in actual hunts.
I think we are going to see some very positive comments on the SE when a few that know the Explorers gets a chance to use one. Those that feel it will be the wonder detector and find just good targets and no trash are going to be very disappointed as this is a XSII with some improvements that will make it a little better than before.

Hello Rick,

Good to hear your first encounter with the SE using your business bar floor, I remember you've used this same floor for other new releases which is a good area to test for separation and recovery speed.

It appears the SE has a fast recovery speed and ID locks on quicker maybe even a tad faster than the older version, That's good news!

You're right, and I'll touch on this a little more as people shouldn't view the new SE as a magic detector gobbling up old finds missed by others but as a new top end detector with some nifty new features.

Thanks Rick,

You let me know when I can get my hands on one of those new Explorer SE's, and I will give it a field test. I myself was very impressed with the detector. Enough to make me think about getting one myself, but won't be able to do it until this winter so I can get a few extra bucks for one. I was impressed with the clarity of the meter and it seemed like it was darker than the other meters, so you could see it more better. I also was really impressed by the way you could pass over a target and it would ID it very fast and the tone from the target would stay in the background until you hit another conduct target. It even ID the target in pinpoint which I thought was a huge addition to the Explorer line of Detectors. I will have to wait and see what the field test's tell me, but I think Minelab did quite well with some improvements while I believe there is still a few that could be added to such a great machine. Let's just hope Rick(ND) gives the go ahead and contacts me to take the detector out and give it a shot and see what it will do because quite frankly, it's got me very anxious to get my hands on one to see if there is any other improvements in it in actual field use. To all you lucky fella's out there that was able to purchase the SE, let's see some feedback real soon and hopefully a few nice finds with it also. Good Luck and HH.

As soon as I get mine in that I ordered first, but kept selling to those waiting for one. I will get in touch with you as I would like to see what you can do with it compared to the XS you have now. Not that you need to find anymore of that old deep silver, but for you to have something on you wish for list.

Rick
