Question on X-1 probe installation

A

When installing the X-1, I had to make 3 complete turns around the lower rod with the coil cable, so the cable would not be dangling.
Can this be a problem?

This is the way I have mine so that the coil will have plenty of room to move up and down conforming with the ground so keep your coil flat on the ground and loosen up the coil nut so the the coil is kinda floppy .Frank

I like your probe location.

I would NOT recommend having very much slack at the bottow rod where it will overlap and hang over the coil The Explorer is so sensitive that it will read, false and become unstable with cable hanging out over the coil. Always just leave enough cable at the bottom to allow your coil to move but not overhang. Just take the slack and loop it somewhere higher up somewhere around the shaft joints and you'll be fine.
Anyone doubting this can take another coil wire and wave it over the top of a powered up Explorer and see if it responds. The bad things is that allot of folks don't realize how bad a slack bottom cable will mess up a day's hunt until they know better.
No offense Frank, we're Buds and I've never seen you run your cable as loose as it shows in the picture but that will cause problems on just about any detector.
