Hi I have an ExII and was wondering something. I have owned this for a while and run it on basiclly the factory settings and have found alot. Does changing the settings really inprove my depth or coin finding capabilities? If it does by how much? HH George in Colorado

George,
With some minor change's from the factory settings you can gain more targets that are on the edge of your detection depth ie; manual versus semi-auto. There are other change's but I like to keep it simple.

George;
Getting it on a more custom mode helped me get away from more of the unwanted noise, What part of CO are you in? we are along the Ark Riv.
Good Luck

Hi Grumpy I'm in Palisade Co. thats near Grand Junction or the western side of Colorado, perfect for Metel Detecting as you can detect almost every day of the year as we don't get much snow and alot of sun. The summer I detect the mountains and the winter the desert ghosttowns. Got two nice wheaties today. HH George

Hello George......fellow Coloradan here. In my 20 plus years hunting in Colorado, Kansas, Wyoming, Utah, and New Mexico, I have found the vast majority of keepers in these soils aren't much deeper than 6" to 8". This has held true for coin hunting old parks as well as relic hunting the Indian - Cavalry battle sites, old fort grounds, and ghost towns. The maximum age of the areas we are hunting out west is limited to about 130-150 years.

Back east hunting I have found targets as deep as 14", again soil types, and the ages of the areas go back further, perhaps as far as 250-300 years.

If you have been having good luck with your finds, and your machine at factory settings, why change what you've been doing? I think the saying is "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"!

Good luck, and Happy Hunting!

Thanks Chuck you confirmed what I thought about depth, the stuff just hasn't been in the ground long enough to sink too deep, given our sparce rainfall and hard soil. I have found so much it's hard to believe I have missed alot although I believe noone gets it all.HH George
