Hi I was wondering something.....In select mode when you choose to delete say foil, pull tabs, nails and poptops,,,,,, and select coins for instance the things you deleted still sound off?? I know the darken area comes up but I already know where most junk is on the screen. Am I missing something. HH George In Colorado

asking your machine to contradict itself. I'm interested in others response to this question as I don't use any discrimination.

Thanks for answering,,, why would they built a machine with the capability of contradicting itself??? I still must not be seeing something HH Gorge

This is something to do with what you select. Now if you select coins it select all coins,, not only US ones , but any coins other than ferrous ones so they can read anywhere on the screen so you will see the screen is like the factory quick start is. Now let say you want to reject pull tabs and X that one out on the screen, it will reject most all pull tabs and most gold rings too plus some coins that will read also in that area, so you will lose your nickles. Now if you reject the screw caps than you will also reject the new zinc penny too plus the IH pennies and some of the early wheat pennies. It seems like the reject will override a accept pattern I have notice and some trash items that read close to a accepted one will also read good even though most of the cross hairs are in the black. The new SE seem to be better as disc out when the cross hairs are in the black area.
Now what many do is build a pattern if you want and use the medium or large cursor to accept and item and a small one to reject in the learn mode to help in coin hunting so you don't dig as much trash, but you still will dig some. Many of us have learned when using a pattern to not make it a tight pattern or many will run with no or very little disc out and go by the tones so we don't miss much. Many of the nice coins you see found in old well worked parks and such were coins that do not read in the correct ID on the meter as many detector say it was trash while the explorer with the screen open hears the coin and the trash beside it. Takes a little time, but those that run a open pattern or no disc may dig more trash, but also dig more good coins too.

Thanks Rick I think that is the answer. Also a couple other questions I'm making a little pattern while I'm inside my House,,,I'm using my detector with the Sun Ray pinpoint on so I don't have to go outside,,snow right now. Does this make a difference? also with our cross hairs is the true find where the cross hairs meet or in the whole box? Sometimes part of the box is in the dark area and some in the light area? Using the Sun Ray probe is actually the best way to make a pattern so you don't get any stray signals. Make sure when making a pattern to turn the sensitivity as low as it will go too so you don't get any stray signals to mess up the pattern. Remember to turn it back up when done making a pattern. I also found when making a pattern to go in and out from the tip of the Probe or coil and not across it to prevent getting more than one signals.

I find that if any part of the box is white and the target falls in this area it will signal on it, not just the very center of it.

Thanks again Rick, I've got a little project in the works you might find interesting. My detecting partner and I are trying to put a short movie together of one of our ghost town hunts in the Utah desert. Its going to be the actual day starting with how we found and picked this town to the sound and digging of any coins or whatever. I figure it will help you snowbound MDers get you fix. HH George in Colorado PS then we are going to get in on the forumn somehow
