Questions about Redeveloped Fairgrounds

I have been doing a bit of winter research and found a pre 1900 amusement park that has been redeveloped into residential housing. My question is do the home lots in these redeveloped areas tend to give up their old coins, or does the process of redevelopment usually leave the goodies too deep? Have any of you hunted homes plots in similar areas?

You never know how they worked the dirt. Might have brought some in, might have scraped the top off. Only way to know is go find out!!

If in doubt, dig it out. I have hunted an old fairground that was reworked. One end of the ground was great, with lots of old targets. The other end was no good. I later talked to a man whose dad used a team of horses to drag all of the dirt off of the bad end, to fill end some low ground. I have dug great old targets within two feet of the new building. It is a large commercial building but apparently didn't disturb the ground too much. Get going on those permissions, one or two great targets will make up for the time you spend researching. There is potential there.Redevelopment is interesting.This winter I witnessed the city workers reworking an old park downtown,they where scraping about 8-10 inches off the top and hauling it away,I tried to talk to the driver but he pretty much told me to mind my own buss. and stay out of his way(nice guy).So I waited for him to leave,and folowed him clear across town.Wow huge dump yard nothing but pile after pile of dirt and concrete and ashphalt.Found out later the city has been dumping here for years and years.No signs no gates.I will definetly hit this area hard this spring...hh rick in mi.

Wow Rick ! That could be coin city right there, old and new. Be careful, some of the city workers may have claim to that area for detecting, and not want any help mding up the finds. That's going to be interesting, keep us filled in.

That area has been worked over with construction vehicles etc., but some times the loam is screened for the lawns and may reveal some of the smaller coins if they passed through the screen. Good luck. I have hunted a place like that before it was housing and got alot of iron and trash signals but there is still goodies there.
