Questions on making a shaft for a Sovereign GT...

WJW

New member
I am sure these questions have been answered before, but I cannot seem to find them. I have 2 questions regarding the making of a shaft for the Sovereign GT. The first question is: when using a White's arm cuff instead of the GT's arm cuff, how do you secure the controls box's mounting bracket to the shaft? I want the White's arm cuff forward of the control box and the control box under my elbow. I cannot figure out a good secure way of fastening the bracket. Question number 2 is: when using a White's lower carbon rod, how do you make it fit into the GT's coil bracket since it is much wider than the White's rod? I have seen posts of people using White's rods, but cannot come up with a good way of making everything line up and tight. I just can't get a good fit.
Thank you for your help,
Bill

Hi Bill, You can check out the Sovereign GT Mods just a few lines down from this post, are you using the same upper shaft for the GT? Or are you using a different shaft? For using the Whites lower rod you just need a extra rubber washer and the whites plastic bolt for Gt coil bracket.

Drill out the rivets on the box clip. Use only the lower part that clips to the control box and rivet that to the shaft. I think I only used one rivet at the back of the clip to both hold it and the Whites arm rest on, then another rivet on the front of the clip to better secure it to the shaft. No need for bolts or a second rivet for the Whites arm cup. It will be snug. The two rivets just go where they were drilled out on the clip to remove the upper half.

The Whites Tall Man rod allows you to shorten the upper shaft and better yet make a new one out of lighter aluminum to save more weight. No need for a cam lock, just the two headed snap pin. Go to home improvement store and get a pack of rubber washers in the sink fix it department. Glue the four together in pairs. Drill out washer center hole bigger. All set!
