Quick mask safari?

Looking at the YouTube videos for the e-trac they have a big advantage with the conductivity and ferrous numbers both present. Plenty of times with the safari a hear a good target and the number in the high thirties bit can still be junk. Are there any tips, tricks or techniques to get more info out of the target? I've had the safari for a couple months now, love it, love the hobby but don't get a lot of time for hunting so the more information before the dig is a premium for me.

Listen to the 'tone' of those high 30's you are talking about. The good ones are a flutey/light/delicate/musical sound with clad dime being a bit 'harder' than a clad quarter which is a tad 'harder' than a round silver target. I know that doesnt help much, but start REALLY paying attention when you get a high 30s and remember the differences. Its harder for some folks than others, but its a real good skill to learn.

I think some folks will switch back and forth from ferrous to conductive mode and be able to tell you something that way, but I aint one of those folks.

Thanks for the reply, I was thinking tones was the only way. I tried the coin mode vs all metal and agree with you, I can't hear the differences. It isn't an issue so much at the beach but in trashy areas where the extra info would really help. I'll practice more in the yard learning the tones. Thanks again

Also, I may be imaging things, but it seems like good targets have a 'sharper'/'less fuzzy' tone in pinpoint mode. If anyone challenges me on that, I will deny I ever said it tho.
