Re Battery connection on Excal 2

Hi. Can anyone help me with this query please? I have had my Excalibur 2 for about 18 months and was checking it out prior to getting into the water this summer. I noticed that the 3 prong connection where the cable joins the battery pod does not fit tightly against the battery even though it has a new rubber washer on it. I have 3 batteries and this is the same on all. Is it supposed to fit tightly against the rubber washer and battery pod?
It may have always been like this but I have just noticed it and wanted to check before submerging the unit.
Any help on this matter would be great. Thank you.

Took the rubber washer off of the charging plug and add it to the plug going to the battery pac.Fits snugger and Keeps the prongs dry + no corrosion..Still rinse well after water hunting...

Many thanks for the info Tab Hunter. I tried this and it seemed to make a slight difference but there is still a gap. I don't want to put too much force on the prongs in case I damage them.

Thanks Sandscoop. I tried this but almost cross threaded the cap as it did not leave enough room for the thread to bite.
What kind of silicone do you recommend?

There seems to be a slight gap because the ruber gasket has a slight rise to the gasket around the prongs that flatten out when you tighten up the connector! I use automotive diode electrical grease , found at any parts store . Remember don't rinse the battery pod with the connector off or you will get water in the battery!

My machines new. I also noticed this. Very cheap design. So I used silicone based gasket material an jammed it as full as possible an then shut it.

The closer I looked the more I seen it. That one big gasket is really 3 small ones...and fit tightly around Immediate area of prongs but looks loose. As a precaution...gasket material. Hh gl Vjoe

Yes , Njcoinshooter, you're right the gasket does have a raised part around the prongs. Maybe I'm worrying over nothing. I've just had 2 cataracts removed so I am seeing things much clearer than I have been doing for 20 years. I will get some grease as mentioned.

Many thanks.

doubling the gasket. Even tho I was gooping it with silicone with the one gasket I was still getting corrosion on the terminals. When I took it apart after water hunting there was moister around the plugs.Thats when I doubled the gasket and that did the trick.

I think one washer is enough, if Minelab would have wanted 2 on there you would have had 2 on there to begin with....you can also put the Silicone on the Connector Prongs the keep them from corroding.....Tab.

Thanks Tab Hunter for your helpful input. I will try to get some silicone gel and I am sure that this will fix the problem.
This is what makes this forum the best, so many people willing to help out.
