Tony, I only had an EX2 for a short time because it was not as sensitive. About 2 months ago I hunted with friends who both had EX2s and they had no problem digging deep small targets which the 2 I had hated. This is the unit Minelab sent me to replace the dud I had for a long time I guess was a dud too. It really pi$$es me off because I sold it and bought another used XS which of course is floppy as hell right now and has to go back into Minelab. It is an older unit so I won't say it was a real surprise. To get back to the question I think one is probably as sensitive as the other and how it's used would make more of a difference.
