Reading alot of posts on the Scorpion has peaked my interest.....

I've been reading alot of the posts where ya'll that use the Scorpion for coin/jewelry hunting are doing really great. I've watched the instructional DVD on the Stinger and it looks like a sweeeeeet little machine. I know it is marketed primarily as a gold machine but it seems to do amazingly well in the coin fields too. I'll have to do more reading on this machine :nerd: as it sure has got my interest up. :clapping:

I bought one year and a half ago, it impressed me so I bought another, now I got 2, yup, I like em, but like C. Garrett says in the manual do 100 hours to learn it, or any other detector as far as that goes, sure do like mine:garrett:

as well as John/Edmonton and ya'll both do super with the Stinger. I guess you guys posts is what got me interested in reading up on one. Keep em' coming, I enjoy reading up on the Scorpion, I'd say I'll have to add it to the Garrett detector want list for sure!!

Thanks,
Bryan

It's my favorite machine for getting both coins and rings from sports fields. It bangs hard on rings and other round center free objects. I pinpoint off the toe of the coil, which gives me an idea of its depth by how fast the audio cuts out.

Although it is primarily a gold machine it is also set up for coinshooting, relic hunting, etc. As such, and with its high operating frequency it is a superb ring finder especially with the 4.5 inch coil - which sadly is no longer available but might be picked up on the used market..

The Scorpion is indeed a very good coin/jewelry/relic machine as well as being the most affordable gold machine on the market. It is, in my opinion, one of the most under rated metal detectors in the industry. I use mine primarily for electronic prospecting, but it's always fun to swing it around for some coin shootin'.:detecting: Here are some useful links.

Best of luck to ya!:biggrin:Happy Hunting!:)

More interesting reading on the Scorpion!! :clapping: One more quick question, I didn't see it in the manual, (unless I overlooked it) how is the battery life of the Scorpion running on the 3 9v batteries? I would assume it would be pretty good but just though I would ask. ;)

Thanks again,
Bryan

Batterylife / You know I really don't know, I'm guessing around 30 hrs or so, I just forget when I'm using it, as far as the time, I always use energizers, and if it gets down to 2 beeps when i turn it on i switch batteries, all my stuff uses 9v batteries and I buy them when on sale and with discount cupon from newspaper ads, makes em purty cheap, around 2 bucks or less, depends on sale and cupon, i usually got a back supply of energizers of around 25, that's for ALL my stuff.:detecting:

Yeah I've been trying to get Garrett to modernize and revamp it for years to no avail. If they would they'd have another top seller on their hands. Wish they would just come back out with the 4.5 inch coil for the one they have. I think I got the last one they had.

I get about 18 hours on these 8.4 volt 200mAh batteries. I have been using them for over 2 years and I use the Scorpion often. In the colder weather, they drain faster, so I tape a hot pac underneath the box below the batteries. This seems to solve the problem.

:garrett: Congrats on the Scorpion descision Azflyer, you won't be disappointed! The Scorp really like rings! :garrett:
:garrett: Mine is mounted in a fanny pack for easy swinging and to protect it from the elements. :garrett:

Along with prospecting I am sure I will find a little time to reverse engineering it. I suspect the Scorpion being the way it is may be due to patents held by Mr Garrett. Like most, I don't know and this is just a thought.
