Really need to change this foram to the Minelab Xterrra 705

I swear besides me there's one other that bought the Xterra 305 as posted before.. Maybe by now there's 3 of us. Just never wrote Minelab on their sales quotas on my machine.
I not even sure if there were any sale for the 505, but I know they make them.
Just sitting here and thinking I can''t wait till i'm out again digging, but when posting I feel like a loner.
So if there's any other's that have the Xterra 305 lets group together and show them the power of the machine.
Maybe I just need to upgrade to a different machine to get out of this rut.

Then just start up a dedicated 305 thread on the Minelab X-Terra Forum for 305 owners, and keep adding to it before it goes too far down the list.

Maybe call your thread For 305 Owners .

Hey Bruce!! Don't worry about how many 705 users post here. You are fortunate enough to own a Minelab X-terra. It is a great detector. Just get out there and learn how use it to the max and enjoy yourself. If you ever post some finds no one will care that you have a 305...505....705....whatever 05!!! It's a great hobby, you have a MINELAB ................have fun!!!:detecting:

Like rooster said. You OWN a minelab!!!!! There are a lot of people that would love to own one but cant. I had to scratch and save for near 6 months to get my 705. I almost setteled for a ACE 350
Not that those are junk machines by no means. I just knew that I wanted better. If this weather ever warms up and the honey-do's get done I'll be able to USE it.

Check my signature below. I own one of each.

I read the X-Terra forum and I'm glad all X-terra owners post together here. I am relatively new to the forum and look forward to hearing from other 305 & 505 owners about their mastery of these great machines but also want to learn about the 705 and it's capabilities. Heck, I even read the E-Trac forum to learn about it and see all of their great finds. I'll try to remember to put my signature on all my posts from now on as I didn't know it would really matter to anyone else...
Now I know!!!:surprised:

I started out with the X30,since the 305 came out after the X30, they could of only made a great MD better, and if you look at my posts before i bought my 705/... the 30/305 model is a great machine,it more than produced exciting and rewarding finds for the 5 years i used it....not one problem ever!!! good luck

Bruce,
I own a 305 and I post here regularly. I love my unit and would not be opposed to having a seperate 305 posting area. Lets start getting 305 users to put that model in their headline text.

I know how you feel Bruce. I often felt like I was the only X-terra 30 user to post on this forum as it seems that only 70/705 users seem to post. i can assure you though, that there would easily be as many 305 owners as there are 705 owners. I personally think, that for the mid range targets that I detect for. after owning a 70 for nearly 3 years now, I think that the 305 will do the job just as well. If i was to ever update it, I would lean towards the 305 for that reason. I'd love to see more posters here proudly talk of their 305 in their adventures. Like most things, it really comes down to the expertise of the operator rather than the flashiness of the equipment that they use.

305 owner here. only machine i have. look forward to readin the 305 posts on here. tis true there doesnt seem to be much of a 305 community presence on internet. keep postin them posts. h 305 h.

505 owner here. Had the 50 before that. Real good units too!!! Heck it is all good and fun for everyone. Everyone here is glad to help out on advice too. Plus alot of the information on here pertains to the other xterra units also. Please do not feel left out!!

Thanks everyone for the responses. I've been hunting 2 years now with the 305 and have been very successful as far as I'm concerned. I've been hunting now for 8 years and started out with a White Quantum II and had several other detectors since then. Right now my primary detector is the 305 and the back up is a Ace 250. When reading your post I often thought that I made a mistake when getting the 305. When everyone else is out with the top of the line 705, and probably digging deeper and running smoother with the finer features of the 705.
Still have to get a new coil for it this year as we go to the beaches of York Maine, and I think a different coil would probably work better in the soft sand when available. Last year the tide was higher then normal and even at the upper rocks it was the wet sand. So hunting was not the best in Maine. Now confused about which coil would best serve my needs.
Overall it's a great machine and when I got it the person only used it once and said it was not for him. For the deal I got it for it was hard to pass up. So when I see all the 705 posts I alway wondered if I should have waited and moved up to the top of the line.
Well anyway thank you everyone for your support.

Happy Hunting

Hunt with whatever you want to hunt with dude. Yeah I own a 705, but I'd still be hunting if it wasn't.

Bruce.
Don't undersell the 305. I personally think that the 705 is a bit overrated myself. The 305 will hit pretty much what the 705 will. As I mentioned earlier, I think that the 705 is way over represented on this forum. Not the fault of the folks posting, but rather those that have the 30/305 and 50/505 that are not posting.
Keep your posts coming and enjoy your detector! It's a sweet little unit.
Mick Evans.

I hunted for several years with a machine that didn't have the capabilities and features that you have with your 305. In many ways not even close to what the 305 offers and I actually made some pretty good finds with it. I still have that detector and will not get rid of it. A good solid machine, just lacked some of the very useful features and abilities that are on all the X-terras......including the 305. There is always "something bigger and better and newer and etc.......". Learn how to use that 305 and get out there and find some stuff.

If you are hunting York beaches with a single frequency detector of any brand or model then you will have depth and stability problems. You need to use a multi-freq detector or even better yet a Pulse Induction. The Black Sand content on Long Sands is very high! Therefore using a 705 in place of a 305 is not going to gain you much. Best bang for the buck in your case is to get a DD coil, and it may turn out that the 6 inch DD will get greater depth than a larger one as it "sees" less of the ground. Personally I would get the 5x10 and stay out of the water, keep the coil at least one inch above the sand, and don't swing over puddles and then over sand.

Hunt and be happy!

Im an 705:r...but it doesnt matter. If I had a 305 or 505 I would certainly post here without hesitation.
There will always be better machines out there. I think the simplier the machine the more fun you will have.

I have been told on rallies in UK that with my 705 you not gonna get good stuff.!!!Its the E-trac, Explorer,XP, that counts...well,I managed to find really great stuff, old roman coins, hammys and ancient relics. One guy was using the new GPX and heavy eqiuped with all the latest gear, there was I,one coil,a set of IportaPro lightweight headphones and a spade. When I was digging goodies,he picked up all this big nails at great depth..:)

That day he didnt come up with one good find...maybe he was new to the machine, but so was I with the 705.
For me it was one of the best days of detecting.

Mike

well i had over 200 bucks in modern coin in the last 3 weeks with my 305. a happy bunny. its not wot you got its how you use, as the sayin goes. now lets get those dang 305s swingin and show these 705 boys a thing or 2.

I too started out with a 505 and frankly it operates much the same as the 705. In many ways I still prefer the 505, but I did upgrade to the 705, mostly for the auto feature and the prospecting mode. Matter of personal preference really. The 505 is a great machine and I'm sure the 305 is also.

when my rich uncle gets out of the poor house he's gonna buy me a 305..lol
had a 705 but just not waterproof with the 5x10. otherwise it was a good machine. want a 305 for my daughter. and about 10 other detectors too..
If your happy thats all that counts. Ive seen amazing finds with a BH machine. like a old timer "Tabdog" used to say, learn your machine and it will serve you well...

Hey Bruce,
Don't get discouraged just because you don't see other X-Terra 305 users posting here.
I'm sure there are hundreds of folks using them, they are just not posting finds made by them or don't know about this forum.
I am still using an X-Terra 50 and post my finds once in awhile on this forum and get great responses to my posts.
I have also learned a great deal by reading these forums and although the 705 has more features than my old 50, one can still learn a great deal by reading even the posts made concerning that machine.
Just my thoughts,
Felix
