Recharge batt. pack replacement - best option?

Ocean7

New member
Well got out recently and my original EX II Recharge batt. pack lasted about 2.5 hrs before motor boating on me. It was fully changed at start of hunt. Batt. indicator read empty. Turned off and back on - batt. indicator went about quarter way from bottom but detector did not seem to operate properly. I'll assume this means rechargeable batt. are in need of replacement?

So - what is best replacement option for Recharge batt. pack and charger? I assume current EX II charger does me no good with new battery pack unless original equipment?

I don't hunt more than 6-8 hrs at a time, so I don't need a 15 hr battery.
Prefer something that'll charge in reasonable amount of time - say overnight at maximum.

Thanks for your input!

I still have original packs that are from my XS over 5 years old that work... yours shouldnt have died already.... Maybe your charger isnt working correctly.... try charging it for 24 hours and see what happens... Its better to get aone of teh smart chargers that fully chrages and then goes to a trickle charge.. that way you know when they are fully charged

I bought the Rayovac 15 minute rechargables last year as a backup set. Now I use them most of the time instead of my original battery pack because they are so quick to charge.
THey cost me about $12 for a 4 pack at Menards. The recharger was about $27 and came with 2 batteries. The recharger only holds 4 batteries at a time so it takes 30 minutes to fully recharge 8 batteries. The batteries are 2000MAH and a recharged pack will run my explorer about 10 hours

There is a car charger available that you can send in for when you buy the recharger. It costs $3. The car charger will fully charge 4 batteries in 15 minutes too. Or you can partially charge the batteries to last as long as you expect to hunt that day. I discovered that for each 1 minute in the recharger the batteries will run the explorer 1 hour. So if they go dead and I know I want to hunt 5 more hours that day, I take a 10 minute break while the batteries recharge and they are ready for the rest of the day. They work for me.

I would contact Dick Schultz at MineLab, they just might replace your orginal pack. They did that for me once !!!! Also, I read somewhere that a place in Canada rebuids the original Battery Pack ( Don't know where ask in the Forums somebody knows)! I bet MineLab will come to your aid, there are top notch and thats why we stick with them...........Go MineLab!:minelab:

I totally agree with Buzzz! I have a new battery on the way from Dick as we speak! I explained to Dick what the problem was and he took care of that problem instantly! Minelab has the best customer service I have ever dealt with.....PERIOD!!!!! MINELAB ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!

I will probably just get new batteries as Tom suggested. Called Minelab and they were
of little help. In all fairness, my unit is almost 2 years old and no longer under
warranty. So cheapest solution and probably 'smartest' is Tom's. Thanks again all!
