Recommend a Tesoro for Coins

New member
I currently using a Fisher F75SE. I'm finding it makes too much chatter all the time. Not only does the chatter drive me crazzzy, I feel I may be missing good targets. Looking for on a machine that may run quieter than my current detector. Can anyone recommend a Tesoro that provides good depth and speed, while discriminating well to find coins. I was thinking about the new Outlaw or the Vaquero, but I'm open to suggestions.

I am also running a F75Ltd (se), try 1 tone. I am also running a Tejon and I had it on my brothers 2 year old test garden with the stock 9x8 coil and it will hit a Indian head penny at 8". The little 5.75 concentric was hitting hard on 6" coins. The main thing I was looking for in a Tesoro was manual ground balance, which the Tejon has, but so far I haven't found much of a need for the second disc.

I have also noticed that when I use my Tejon my coins per hr goes up.

I would suggest either the Silver or Golden umax but the Vaquero would do well also. I have the V and I've hit dimes a 8" no problem. I'm planning on getting a Golden soon. Take a look at Mike's videos on youtube. His handle on there is mjcz5853. He's a member here as mike5853. His videos are great and he covers the V as well as the Golden and Outlaw. They will help you make an informed decision!

That chatter will drive you nuts. It's not a pleasure to listen to.

Metal detecting is suppose to fun, not nerve racking.

Tesoro metal detectors run so quietly, you sometimes have to look to see if they're turn on.

Today I had to put my Omega back in the car and pull out one of my Tesoro detectors, because the EMI was so bad.

The Tesoro wasn't affected by the EMI. None whatsoever!

I have used the Compadre, silver u Max( which I really liked). The present Vaquero, and a Cibola...Both of which are excellent coin getter's..Mild soil and not hooking up a clean sweep coil, the Cibola is only going to lag the Vaquero by an inch or so.I would go for either the Vaquero/or Cibola for one simple reason......TALL GRASS...I found a shield nickel at 8 inches from the coil in grass /soil that had to be worked down.Gold uMax.,sometimes, I think you can spend too much time listening...So why do I think I might want a Vaquero with tones????? The compadre, I blew the socks off a character that bought a super expensive detector..Every swing was a hit..And, I had been over that spot with my vaquero a week before???????????? Maybe a different direction, or my wife planted beer money??

If you are going to predominately hunt clad coins in playgrounds, tot lots, parks and athletic fields a good choice would be a Silver uMax. I know. I have one and use it in these applications.

I'm more interrested in finding older coins. I'd like something that hits silver hard and deep.... without a lot of chatter.

That pretty much limits it to the Vaq.

This forum page is Recommend a Tesoro for coins....For Coins, I would recommend a Tesoro...They all work well....I had a detector once, that the old Association was pushing...I threw a coin in the water next to a beach, muddied the water, and could not find the coin..It was so bad, I didn't even sell it to a person I disliked...Put it at the curb with the garbage, someone got it before the truck, and, I'll bet, still hates me...

My Cutlass uMax hits hard on all coins except dimes, the tone is quite soft on a dime less it is a surface or close surface. It found my first Merc at 7" in a gravel driveway. It operates at 12khz.

My Stingray runs at 10khz and again hits hard on coins too.

Now I also run the F75 ( standard ) and that is a hell of a coin hound, she does take some time to get used to. And I can call the coin 9 times out of 10 with this machine and have find dimes at 9"-10" and have learnes to trust this tool. Though you can see I like my Tesoros too, and if I hadn't got a great buy on my F75, I was going back and forth between getting the T2 or the Vaquero ;)

Just nice to have choices for the job at hand, good luck with your decision, but don't give up on that Fisher F75 its a beast,

All the Tesoros I've used have been good on coins. I would recommend a machine with manual ground balance so that you have that feature if/and/or when you are detecting in areas where the mineralization may be an issue. In the current line up my choices would be either the Vaquero, Outlaw or Tejon with the Tejon being the deepest, but possibly a bit more noisy than the other two. A clean, used Eldorado umax or Bandito II umax would also be good choices IMHO. In my own experience, the DeLeon and Cortes have performed quite well, but both have preset ground balance in the disc mode. As most of my detecting with them has been in pretty mild soil they've been fine but lacking the adjustable ground is a potential drawback. My two bits.

I believe the deepest that Tesoro has out is the Tejon. It has manual ground bal. in the Disc. mode as does the Outlaw.Been using Tesoros for 42 yrs as was a dealer some yrs back and a multiline dealer.Used them all as have about 6 detectors on hand, but the Tesoro is the quietest. The Tejon might be a bit nervous so next in line is the Vaquero, The Cibola is next with an set ground bal. on it. Then the Outlaw comes next which I have one with an adjustable grn. bal in the Disc mode. Out of all of them the Tejon I believe to be the deepest in hot ground. The Outlaw is nice but won't match a (H.O.T.) circuitry Tesoro. jmho. shortribs
