Recovery Time

CladDog

Everywhere I look the Safari gets the same criticism: the Safari has a slow recovery speed, slower than the ET. Would those who use the Safari please comment on this? Has it had a negative effect on your hunting?

In my opinion, all the FBS machines have a SLOWER revovery speed than a single frequency machine. They require a slower sweep speed. In the case of the Safari, the tones recovery isn't too bad, the VDI recovery is a little slower, but you should hunt by tones first anyway. JMHO.

I hunt in all metal and if I'm hunting mainly for clad and recently dropped jewelry I find that I can swing that coil with a good amount of speed and not miss any targets. I imagine if one were to use discrimination they would have to slow down considerably due to nulling. If I'm hunting an area and I'm looking for deeper older stuff I will slow way down and listen for the little chirps of deep silver.

I have both a Safari and an E-trac, haven't been detecting long but I can see a difference in the recovery speed. The Safari, in my opinion, is a very good machine regardless. The E-trac does do better in the trash though. Before I picked up the E-trac I bought a smaller coil for the Safari that helps out a lot in the trashy areas. The main reason I picked up the E-trac was not for recovery speed, though a nice perk, it was for the discrimination and IDing of targets.

I also have a safare, I dont like how slow it is. I really want to bring it with me to the philippines,. I want to use it at the beach. There is so much trash that it would never get a signal on a good target, Always trying to recover. The trash here is like a junk yard.....KEN
