red bricks

currently have a PI unit but am unable to use it at some beaches because it will pick up red bricks. Would this be true of all PI units? I am assuming the brick contains iron.

Hi Randy,
Yes, most PI's will pick up red bricks. The iron minerals in the clay are converted by the firing process into a very magnetic form of iron oxide. It is the same form of iron oxide that you get in many gold prospecting areas, particularly Western Australia. The Goldscan is a PI that had a ground balance system that could tune out bricks etc. Also the SD2100/2200 can do the same.
Eric.
