Reg or Eric, PI Pinpointer probes

Wirechief

New member
I am curious about how a PI pinpoint probe is built. Is the coil wound with the turns right next to each other on some sort of coil form and is it wound close to the full length of the probe? I mean I assume that there is some sort of wire coil in a pinpointer. Thanks. Wirechief.

Hi Wirechief.
The probes we make are wound just like a MONO coil and that is why they react like a mono in high mineralisation. They are wound around a core which helps direct the field out the end of the probe. You will still get signals around the sides of the probe but more intest at the end. As it is still a wire coil for a PI machine we still have to follow the perameters for mono coils for the unit to work.
I hope this helps.

Hi Trev, Thank you for the info and I was just curious since I have never owned a pinpoint probe I was'nt sure how it is constructed. It looks like it would be a little difficult to make them. Is there some little tricks used to get the proper Inductance in these probes? I assume you are connected with Coiltek. Thank you again Trev and I hope to chat with you again. CU later. John.
