Relics In The Snow

Finally getting around to posting finds from last week's hunt. We had a two inch snow early last week here in Missouri, followed by two nights of below zero temps. Then, the day time temps started to creep above the freezing mark, so I decided to see if my site was frozen. Surprisingly, it was still "diggable", although some areas were getting "stiff". I like hunting in new snow in the one to two inch accumulations. It's easy to see where you have hunted and if you are "gridding" off an area, it's easy to see your tracks.

Found a nice .69 cal. musket baall, a fairly nice .54 ca; Merrill, two really nice .36 cal. teardrops and a couple shot bullets. The clump of lead is a thin sheet of lead folded over several times. Found three pieces of harmonica reeds, a part off an umbrella, part of a spur, a suspender clip, a shoe toe protector, and part of a small oil lamp. All in all, a pretty nice "snow hunt".

Thanks for lookin;

Nice. Do you find old coins from time to time in that area ? There must be silver in there somewhere waiting for you. I'm surprised by the bone white color of that musket ball. All the ones I found so far are either grey or a cobalt blue-grey color.

Generally lead in our area of the country comes out pretty white. Been hunting this site for a couple of months. Found an 1853 dime and ab 1832 large cent. Also found a George McLellan Presidential token, as well.
