Remember the posts on the correct way to noise cancel? WELL..........

When I got home I had an email from a gal by the name of Sandy who is with Minelab in Las Vegas and the Technical Support Manager. She said that you do not have to hold your machine waist high to noise cancel. The only thing you need to do to the detector is hold the detector where the coil is about 4 to 6 inches off the ground and hit noise cancel. She also said that who ever said to hold it at waist high is confusing it between the DVT/MPI technology and the FBS technology. You also don't have to turn your sensitivity all the way up. The only time you want to open up the sensitivity is when you know that there is not a lot of mineralization where you are hunting. Otherwise adjust your sensitivity to where you are working. Hope this clears up the issue of how to noise cancel.............:) HH.

Eddie

Thank you Eddie for the information about the noise cancel questions. I will have to try that way since I usually just find a clean area and noise cancel while the coil is sitting on the ground. Might just run even better doing it the way Sandy says to do it.

Hi James,
Kind of confusing when the Minelab book says to hold your coil still while resting it on the ground and hit noise cancel and now they say to hold your coil 4 to 6 inches off the ground. Makes a guy wonder if there is really a wrong way of doing it now. I guess just do it the way that works best for you and start digging.....:)

The last couple of times I've gone out I've experimented with both ways of noise canceling... Maybe it's what's UNDER the coil at the time? but I've found better results (with a steady threshold at higher sensitivities) with the coil 4 or so inches off the ground.

I haven't tried it yet raising my coil 4 to 6 inches off of the ground, but next time out I will give it a try. I also agree Joe that it might just have something to do with what's under your coil. HH.

Eddie

Place a silver dime on the ground and place the coil 2 inches above it and hit noise cancel.
Ha- Ha
This test is just for my buddy James so nobody else try it

Sorry James , i couldnt resist.

With a penny inside his loop cover and wiggle the coil while it is canceling.
I think that would work good for James don't you think Corey??

Seriously I always noise cancel with my coil about 4 or 5 inches above the ground so it can see the ground and yet see any interference in the air.

Thats Okay Staloch, I still will get to the Copper Arrowhead before you and knowing my luck, it would just improve my quantity and quality of all the old coins that I would add to my pouch. I say "Lead,Follow,or Stay Behind and eat my dust!" Good Luck this year and may the best man win.

Very Funny Rick!!! I think I will set up your detector just opposite of what your settings are and see how long it takes you to figure out what is going on. Maybe you won't figure it out and we will see an Explorer Toss from you for distance. We will see what happens this year with the finds and see who's finding all the great finds out there. Sorry Rick, but the time is coming to go out and rape the ground again and there is nothing you can do about it. Good Luck this year and HH.

James, James, James. I have enjoyed hunting with you in the past and i hope we can get together more this summer. We need to find Rick(ND) some decent finds. Its always a blast when we get friends together for an afternoon of hunting. Talk to you next month during our relic hunt.

The find we get are only second to the great time we have when we all get together for the afternoon. I am hoping I can make it to the relic hunt in April, would be a lot of fun.

See you at the meeting.

We shall see if I make it out this weekend. But I think you just jinxed yourself Rick, very, very bad indeed. Hope we can get out and do some detecting together with our friends and start adding finds to this great forum. HH.
