Remodeling and detecting a home built in 1900.

We have been working on a very old home. The original house was built in 1900 and we are doing a complete plumbing replacement with all new pipe and fixtures. When we get done, it will have three nice bathrooms and a modern kitchen and laundry as well. None of the bathrooms are in the same place they were when we tore into it. The place has a lot if history and and is right in the heart of the city. Here is the front.. That is the capitol dome in the back ground.

This is the view from the back of the house.

You can see that the main house is a two story with a full basement, but on the back is an addition that was built in 1924. The ground under this 1924 add-on was grass for 24 years and it got me thinking. What could be in that old un-detected ground?
Here is a closer photo of the 1924 addition.

If you like old spiderwebs and dirt this is your kind of crawlspace. It is not a very big area, but I'll take old dirt any day and in any size.

You can see a doorway opened up in the back ground, I took this photo from the other side. And I did make it through that tiny clogged up hole.

O.K. Old dirt, historical home, un-detected because of the pleasant conditions, sounds like a good chance for some goodies! Jim took this of me in as I started the hunt.

I have some really cool finds to clean up and then I will post the rest of the story. And by the way, it was worth it! Stay tuned for more! DC
