It's 24 degrees with 2-3 in. of snow here. My wife told me this afternoon that I looked like I was chomping at the bit to get out and go THing and I should go. I was hesitant-for about 5 SECONDS. I grabbed the Vaquero with the 5.75 widescan, the garden shovel and my pinpointer.
When I got to the site it took about 2 minutes and my first signal was a 40-D merc. Then a 43-S war nickel. All in all I got these 2 coins plus 4 wheats, 3 more nickels, several memorials and a little tiny hammer. . This machine is starting to open up to me, and I like what I hear so far.
Felt like it was a good hunt for an hour and a half. Would have kept going but the light was fading. When I left, that yard looked like gophers had attacked it. I throw my plugs back in the hole and tamp them down, but I only do that so someone wont trip in the hole. There are several more homes that still have people living in them, but at this point when you look at them the first thing that comes to mind is "meth house". When they move out, if I am lucky enough to get there first, I am afraid of what kind of trash may be there.
Hope y'all get to get out and hunt. HH

I like those find's Bill. I like finding war nickles. I used my V to hunt my brotheres yard today for a couple of hours but found mostly pulltabs and square tabs and other junk. I did find two nickles and a couple of cheap earrings. I had fun though. I really like hunting with the V. I am thinking about a backup.( just sold my bounty hunter). I may look at a silver umax or a compadre.

Hi Mike,
I have the Sabre as a backup, but it's 29 years old. I want to teach my wife how to do this, she always wants to see what I found. I think if she was to find her first piece of jewelry, that would do it. I keep thinking about a Compadre, everybody here seems to love them.

Glad to see your startin to get the hang of it. Keep it up!

Great find on that silver dime, and the nickle,

Thanks, it made me happy. One of the wheats was a 1918 also. I was on the other side of the freeway from this site this morning, I noticed 3 lots that had homes on them, not sure if anybody has searched them yet. They are from 1905-10, cant wait till spring.

Im thinking about the silver umax. I here it gives a lot of signal feedback. What was your setup on the V. at that hunt?

Nice finds.

It sounds like you have a great place to detect. You need to be getting all you can while you can.:detecting:

Tabman,
I intend to. ;)

Mike,
The V was set between Iron and the next mark up. Sens as high as possible without chatter. Threshold at about 5 o'clock. I kept changing GB from neg to pos with each signal to see if there was any difference, none that I could tell. None of these coins were much over 4 inches though, so GB may not have been a big issue.

We have some brand new Silvers at work, I should borrow one and see how I like it. I know they dont like them at work, dont go deep enough for what they want them for.....or so they say.
Hmmmm, wonder if I could get one for a good price.

Were do you work that has metal detectors? I set mine up like you do at old spots that doesn't have a lot of modern trash, with the exception of threshold. I run mine at the last o in tesoro. (about 1 oclock pos.)

Mike, thats where I was running mine, I watched one of 53silvers videos and thought that was where I needed to be, then I either watched it again or watched another where he had his threshold set at 5 oclock. I also set my disc a hair lower than he did. Now I seem to be finding a lot more. I still intend to do some spots where disc is set past tab to try Spiritrelics way for just silver. We shall see how that pans out.
I work for the water department, they use detectors to locate curb stops. I dont, I'm a hydro mechanic.

Gary,
I keep thinking that maybe I need a concentric, but that 5.75 was picking up something way past 12 inches. I gave up digging because I'm fairly certain there is no coin down where the gravel starts. At this point I'm pretty impressed.

Can you get a deal on one of those Silvers? I'm lookin for a backup tector. I'm needing something reasonable priced like a silver or a compadre. You know for taking someone else huntin. :) I have the 5.75 concentric on my V , and that is what I hunt with exclusively. I just love that coil. It air test really deep. like 10" on my 10k gold wedding ring. I am impressed with that. I haven't dug any coins that deep, however I have dug some 6" or so. I'm not saying it wont go deeper though.

I was joking. The city wont sell anything unless it goes to auction. I think the guys will beat these to death first.

Went back today. Got some good signals, but everything is so frozen, I can get a plug up but cant tear it apart. Guess I'm done for while.
