Revisited wooded site from a month ago

small change

New member
On Saturday, Roger (a friend who I often hunt with) & I went back to the woods where I did fairly well last month. We tried some of the same spots along the trail where I had success & ended up concentrating in one area where most of the coins seemed to be. I ended up finding two Roosevelts (a '52D & a'62D) along with a '45D Mercury. Also found was 14 wheats (oldest was a 1911) along with an older style scout neckerchief slide & some small religious item. Roger ended up with 16 wheats & only one silver coin, but it was the prize of the day. He didn't even have to dig for it--he just kicked back some leaves & there it was....a 1935D Walking Liberty Half. Most of the coins just like last month were pretty shallow. I don't think I dug anything over 3-4 inches deep & most were less than that. Wish I could think of a couple more wooded sites like that one to check out before it gets well into spring.

That type of area is one of my favorites to hunt. Out of the way, nobody stareing and old coins hiding along an old trail. The Easter Bunny has nothing on that. NIce finds and pics,,, go get em.

Nice finds Dan, WTG. Tell Roger congrats on the wheats and Walking Liberty.

Way to go small change.

nice stuff! You never know what a non-descript site will produce - all evidence of what might have gone on there in the past is gone and it just looks like a patch of woods. Last fall I checked some woods in back of an old church and found a nice xf silver 3 cent 1853 (at 2 inches down) - washed off it was as shiny as the day it was lost. The fun part is taking a shot at a spot that many people wouldn't think of checking.

Hey I found the exact same Scout Kerchief Slide about 6 years ago - still have it in a display case too!
