I was looking at craigslist on Friday, I searched for "metal detectors" and found an ad for a person looking for someone who would rent her a metal detector.
I sent an email and received a email back from a young lady named Angel. She is a nanny for some people's kids that live just a mile from my house. She had taken her engagement ring off in the house and set it down on a table to take the kids swimming in the backyard. When she went back in the house the ring was gone. Either the Jack Russel dog had eaten it or the kids had taken it. They even took the kids to be xrayed to see if they had swallowed it.
A month later he went ahead and got married with just her wedding band. After 4 months she was looking for someone to let her use a detector so she could see if one of the kids had taken it out in the yard. The people that owned the house were getting ready to move.
I never thought I would find the ring but the house was built in the 50's so I thought I could find some silver. I just bought a new Explorer SE Pro detector a couple of weeks ago and wanted to give it a try so we set up a time on Sunday to see if we could find it.
I had been ready Andy's book from cover to cover. I set my detector up with Bryce's settings that were in the book. I also set the detector in iron mask as was suggested.
I didn't have much hope since she wasn't sure where she had lost it and the yard had been mowed several times. The house was built in the 50's so I figured we might find some silver coins. The yard was quite large and I didn't know if me and the wife would have enough time before the Superbowl.
I didn't find any silver coins but I found the ring in less than 30 minutes using the Explorer with the 8x6 SEF coil! This was my first hunt with the Explorer. I first swung my coil across her wedding band to see what it would read. It was white gold and read 11 02 on the digital scale. I was moving along and got a bunch of trash signals in one spot but had a 11 01 flash up for a second. I shot it from several angles and got the 11 01 reading a few more times. I nearly passed it up because of all the trash signals but something told me to dig. After doing the wiggle to pinpoint it and with the help of my Garrett pinpointer I dug up the ring! It had only sunk an inch in black clay we have in our area.
After a big hung and smile from Angel we took pictures. It made me feel pretty good.
Take a look at the pictures of me, Angel, and the wife. She was very happy to say the least.
