Ring TIDed at 8 . Steel?

Clad Daddy

New member
I found a ring on a totlot this morning. It showed an 8 and is heavy. It is painted black with the Lord's Prayer written in white. I know it's not valuable but I'm curious what type of metal it is made out of. Thanks for any suggestions.

I have a couple of black rings , it is possible it is Titanium or Tungsten.

Hit is with a magnet first, that will eliminate steel. Is it heavy for it's size? Maybe do a scratch test on an unglazed ceramic tile, or bottom of a coffee mug. This may narrow it down a bit. let us know what you find out! HH

If it has the Lord's prayer on it, then I am guessing it is not a small ring....so, if it is large, and registered at 8, I think that would rule out white gold...I have a 7.22gm, 9k white gold ring which registers at 28 on my X Terra 70. Stainless Steel rings register lower...one I found with the X Terra 70 came in at 8 - 10. It is a medium sized ring. I cant say about titanium or tuingsten, but I would not rule them out. It could be cast iron, but these sometimes have inclusions which give them high readings.
