Ron can you find out if this forum will continue or be modded?

Im guessing minelab helps with the support of this forum? They did on another site as I remember they pulled funding for a while and the forum was removed but brought back, that was the explanation given anyway.
I also posted to Bryce on the Explorer forum if he has any input on this.
Thank you,
Neil

Probably even if Minelab is/isn't sponsoring this forum anymore, Kellyco, Sun Ray, and so on will be. People buying other machines to add to their line up to sit along side their Sovereign or Excal, Sovereign owners or Excal potential buyers looking into buying an Excal, people buying Sun Ray coils, probes, headphones, etc. I see Minelab is running an add at the top still, probably so Minelab users of the Excal or Sovereign might look into adding other Minelabs to their line up. Plenty of other forums on Findmall about machines now defunct as well, and this is the Excal forum too, so I doubt or at least hope nothing changes.

Neil, the Excalibur is still in production. The Explorer forum has 106100 post and the Sovereign Excal forum 45,000.These people use other detectors and products I don't see any reason to eliminate either forum.Example the CZ and classic Fisher forum is still around.Unless people are no longer interested and no loner go to these post elimination could be a possibility. At this time both sites attract a lot of readers and customers for other detectors and products. Most important factor, Moderators are inexpensive. Thanks Ron

I feel it will be around for a while yet as too many use the Sovereign Excalibur's yet and if the post are here I am sure the forum will be here.
Do many realize that this BBS forum is how Findmall started and grew from that?? I been with them since 1996 or 1997 when I believe they started and feel the Minelab BBS forum is what gave the start and made Findmall what it is today, so I feel this BBS forum will be here to stay..
The difference back then was everyone was posting finds and asking questions, now it seems so many air test and preburried targets plus coil comparisons with very little actual real hunts where the Sovereigns are made for and do so well at.

Ron and Rick thanks and I agree these forums are very popular, have no idea what cost, if any, minelab puts in them, but my thinking is the explorer/sov end is a financial reason and perhaps they were looking at the forum count as well. your right about it being a good advertising medium.

Rick I didnt realize the BBS forum was the original one but I do remember contributing on it back when there were no Explorers and sometime after the findsmall changed, thats why it only lists back 7 yrs or so. Ive only been online since I was was 44 and Im 56 now.

I do remember some of the older members like Jim Vokes who even had his own website with alot of sov stuff. Wildhere also......had probably the best sov site but I dont remember when he started that up.

Back in those days I did post finds but a bad experience with that has got me real careful now and I only post every now and then.

I agree on the test beds and simulations, seems few want to dig and learn anymore, which is the only real way to learn. Its like the difference between living and living vicariously, its just not the same.

Ron if you do hear anything regarding forum movements please post it up. Thanks again, Neil

You know what I think would be interesting? That we count up the number of "look what I found" threads posted by people who always complain there aren't enough of those, versus those of the people they are complaining about, over say the last year or two or so.

Far as air tests or coil field reports, I find any of that stuff extremely interesting myself and love to read any of those reports, as well as make some of my own. Two recent threads posted by two other guys who got the Ultimate coil for example, I could not wait to read what they had to say about that coil in comparison to their other coils, and in contrast to what I've seen myself with this coil thus far. Those kinds of threads I find the most interesting to me, even more so then most other threads.

I don't like seeded hunts, relic bullet hunting, and several other forms of hunting, but I would never feel it's my place to complain about people doing that just because I don't find it of particular interest to me. After all, if everybody shared the same lock step view on things then wouldn't be much need for forums. So I feel it ain't my place to complain about others who are into various aspects of detecting that I find a complete bore or of little use to me in this great hobby of ours. To each his own is the way I look at it.

Judging by the number of standardized air test videos on Youtube for many detectors (the brick test, the elevated nail test, coil comparisons in air tests, etc), seems there are many who do indeed think they can learn a few things from air testing. I'm one of them. It's what I find interesting as a general rule of thumb baseline to compare things on. I encourage those who find videos like that a total waste of time to start making their own Youtube videos themselves on what they find of interest.

All I have to say as I've made my point, so no worries of any continued back and fourth on the topic. I'd just encourage those who want to see more threads or videos on their particular interest to start making them and get'er done...

Yes you made your points as to how you feel, now I will too.
Air test I do too just to see what some of the tones sounds like and how a item will read, but from experience in the Field I find in many cases it don't read that way. A good example is one of my best gold rings I found in the ground around 10-11 inches deep and sounded like a beaver tail, when dug I didn't get any signal on it as my disc was set too high at 120 I believe, but in the ground the ring read 140-141 even that deep, but on top of the ground it was around 118. Coils too I like to read some of the reports on them, but to me the only ones that mean anything is those from people that actually do hunting with them and find good targets that other coils have missed. Any type of treasure hunting is great no matter if it is for old relics, coins, old bottles, gold and beach hunting is great as long as it is some form of hunting a person like doing. It bore me and many others I am sure to read the same thing about testing a coil in the air and pre buried coins with 20 post saying the same thing, but just love to read those of those that actually go out and find some good stuff with a new coil in actual hunting. On the Field test on different coils I been ask to do on the Sovereign coils have and always will always be in actual hunting I do as the me that is where it counts. I may do a quick air test just to see what they will do, but the real test is in actual hunts I or anyone does.
We cant all have the same opinion, you got yours and I have mine and hope someday I will be able to hunt with some of you on the forums, it would be interesting what we can learn from each other in actual hunting.

I think we all forget. The Metal detecting field is gearing toward the Younger hunters. They have grown up with xbox so on. They are not interested in Beep and dig Machines. They want Bells & ipad screen's lol. Look at Garett's new Fall Guide what do you see? Kids. Thats why Minelab doing away with their Blue Box detector's Its no longer geared for the retired person looking for a Hobby.Everything is going to have a screen. Their Blue Box has played out. Same with Garrett's they know this. They are all going after the Younger Hunter and to get them interested they have to change. It is becoming a Big business. Like a Good High School Football Team the Coach starts at the Middle school level gets them excited about playing High school Football. A good example is the XP Deus. Look at what their paying for the ipad 5. Just my thinking

Bill, that's a good point,Minelab and other manufacturer's have to market their product to younger consumers to make money.Sometimes a simple turn and go detector works best, good example the Tesoro lineup. Some of the young treasure hunters are going to want to get a simple detector to get away from the hustle and bustle of the computer screen. Just got a call from RJ the guys are waiting at the park,LOL the Sovereign always finds good targets missed even if I'm a little late. HH Ron

yep like ron says this is a good point. was just looking at some apple products myself, they aint cheap:rage:

Are you telling me I'm not young anymore?

A few years under the belt makes me more versatile. :bouncy:

I can use the new stuff, I can use the old stuff. I can use the really old stuff too. But I do have preferences.

As for new, better and more expensive, I did have to cough a few times when I saw the MSRP on the new CTX. (and the new iPhone 5) That is some serious COIN to drop on 1 detector. Will have to watch and see how well the users do with it.
