Rubber battery cover cap with hole.

Hello everyone, this is my 1st post .I,ve been reading alot of the posts about the Exploror SE and seeing some of the u-tubes.
I,ve just received a used Explorer SE with a pro 11" coil but I didnt get the manual that comes with it. Is the hole on the end cap for a regular 1/8" jack for the earphones?
and do you just pull up on the rubber cap to get to the battery compartment? Also would it be worth it to get the Minelab rechargable
battery?
I havent put the detector together yet. But just trying to be carefull and do it right without breaking something.
If any of you Minelab members could help me about the assembly or operation or anything at all that would help me I would apprciate it
very much?
I know theirs alot to learn about this SE. I,ve been used to using Whites detectors

hello Jim D,welcome with Questions. rubber cap is opens like rubber cap :rolleyes: nothing special, hole for headphones.its not easy to broke so relax. if you have battery holder for simple battery's use it with rechargeable battery's its will be the same like Minelab or even better -depends how good you will buy rechargeable. upper rod put in control box with longer side looking in to the handle side., you can put it in control box other way but ist will not go deep like it should so longer side of the upper rod closer to handle. manual in minelab.com. everything ells in this forum. good luck Stasys

Jim, this link should get you to the SE manual PDF. Yes the rubber cover gets pulled up from the bottom and takes a standard jack. You're in good company if you're looking for a place to learn. This is a wonderful forum with lots of experienced Minelab users who aren't afraid to share their knowledge.
 
[size=large]just got mine this p.m. put together and ready to rock. phone jack is 1/4" hole for inserting coil wire is face down on lower rod. and the upper rod clamp goes towards ground. will be smooth rod all the way on the top surface.
as borntohunt said you can down load the manual. can also view it from kellyco site. kellyco may be cheap but they're handy. and if nobody else has it ,it seems they always do.i guess someone name andy sabich wrote a book on this detector and is highly recommended reading to get the most out of your machine. hate to keep pluggin kellyco but noticed they have it for around $12.xx. find your closest dealer. he may have it. ya wanta support your hometown dealer anyway, right? i just came off a whites xlt. won't let it go. that's my baby at least til this explorer shows me differant. looks to be very interesting learning don't it?

Go on the ML website you can download a copy of the manual. Thats what i did when i was researching the machines several years ago.

Thanks guys for the information on the rubber cover, earphone jack,if theirs anything else you can help me with I would appreciate it.
widebody747 my Exploror SE takes a 1/8 jack so I,ll need to get a adaptor plug for my earphones.
I just got THE MINELAB Exploror & E Trac Handbook today from Kellyco and it really looks like a very informative book.
Now I gotta wait for better weather to get out and hunt old coins(we got snow coming tomorrow) here in Indiana.

I thought the earphone jack was 1/8" but just checked and its 1/4"
Normally how many hours will alkiline batteries last? also how long for the store bought rechargables?

Jim... im in Indiana snow or no snow ill be out today. It shouldnt have much affect in the wooded areas of the old park ill be hunting. As long as the wind dont blow i dont mind hunting in the snow and cold.

Jim, I would go with good rechargeable batteries and a good charger. It's going to cost you a bit more up front but you'll come out way ahead over the long haul. My charger will charge 4 batteries in half an hour. I never kept track of how long the charge lasted but it lasts a decent amount of time, at least 10 or 12 hours, maybe more. The good alkalines will probably go longer but they will also wear on your wallet.

Man that sounds like a great place you have to hunt. Where do you live in Indiana?
From what I,ve read and seen on u-tube the MineLab Explorer se is a silver and old coin getter if you learn it.
I was wondering if the air test numbers are same as the older coins numbers in the ground?
Back about 32 yrs ago a friend af mine (died 12 yrs ogo) located an old fair ground, around 4 acres that went back into the1800,s
The weeds were kinda tall and there were large trees, I remember his dad found a silver dollar.
I would like to go back there and hunt if I can,The only thing is I cant remember where it was for sure.
I,m going to do some research and hopfully I,ll locate it again. I think its about 20 mile from where I live.
