Rumors of my demise are an exaggeration...

I haven't posted anything here in a long time, but I do check in once in a while to see what everyone else has been finding. I still get out and hunt once in awhile, but it's hard to find the time with a 19 month old boy taking up most of my free time. I've been at my house for almost a year now, and still have way too much to do around it to justify getting away to detect anymore. I just went through a bad storm last month that knocked out my power for a week and half the branches out of the trees in my yard - I'm sick of chain-sawing already....:stars: at least I have a couple year's worth of firewood. My son has been growing like a weed and it won't be long before I get him trained to be my "digger" I've been getting along ok, but my body is going downhill, I've got several doctors trying to find out what's wrong with me and how to fix it. It seems the more they look into what's wrong with me, the more they find wrong with everything except my original problem. But for now, I take the pills they want me to, and keep on going!

I have been getting out to the local parks every now and then, but I can only get newer silver once in a while. I found 2 silver quarters in my old haunt a half hour apart and got pretty excited about that. I did get out to do a couple weekend road-trips to Iowa, while my Wife and kid were out of town. I did very well up there - the first weekend I came home with 45 silver coins and 50 Indians, a nice gold ring, and many other goodies. I got a 1902 silver dollar :super:(my second one ever), 8 Seated coins including a quarter, 6 dimes, and a half dime, and several high grade better date barber dimes including an 1893S, 1898S, 1899O, 1900S. I also dug a beautiful 1908S Indian Cent in awesome shape. I love the way the ground up there is kind to a lot of the older copper coins, and that is why I go out of the way to hunt up there. I wish I had pics for this post but, my computer hates me and won't talk to my digital camera either....:throw: I have to use the computer at work for this post.

I went up there the next weekend, taking Guvner with me - since he was a little impressed with what I found, and my stories of near virgin grounds that yielded silver coins so often I was crawling from one to the next. We didn't do near as well as I had hoped but I still found some goodies and Guvner managed to get a really nice Seated Quarter. Those trips were 1,500 miles round trip and at the price of gas, I won't be making anymore for while  I do take offers of somebody paying for the gas and lodging in return for my "guide services"

Anyway gotta go, keep up the good finds and until next time,

HH, Mike.

Hi Mike - Erik Friis here from way back (northern NJ/NYC)....wish we'd had a chance to hook up last time you were out this way.....if you ever get out here again, give me a shout. Nice to hear from you again! I'd been off this forum for a couple of years and am also up to my ear with a new house that even if I quit work and worked 7 days a week at, it would take a few years to catch up. Did a little detecting in Bermuda (wife and I went for our second anniversary) and try to get out here every now and again, but it's hard. Keep in touch!

hope those docs figure it out soon. Don't let them do too much or you'll be worse off than when you started. get that camera working - we want pics! :)

Mike, good to read your post. Please post as often as possible. I would say you are one of the most, if not the most, respected and knowledgeable people to post on the forum. Keep us posted concerning your health problems. I think you would be surprised at the number of people that would be interested in you and your health. Keep us posted.
