Running toooooo hot !!!

OK .... It's all coming to me now ..:please:..... I'm realizing that I have been running my machine way to hot for the soil I have been hunting in...... That's why the stuck cursor at times and other times the cursor acting like it's in a pinball machine and confusing junk as prime targets..:rage:.... I'm getting the " Bright lights in the fog " effect with so much iron in the soil and too high of sensitivity. I read so many posts about cranking up sensitivity that I was afraid I wouldn't find much of anything unless I ran at 22 to 28 every where, but I was frying my information ....... and my Brain ....:stars:.
Des Dunne's info on letting the threshold set the sensitivity really helped me out. And this post I found from several years ago gave me courage to actually set my sensitivity at settings between 8 and 11 so I could have a stable threshold ..... http://www.findmall.com/read.php?19,292551
And of course, very good advice from some great guys on the forum has helped me to be able go detecting today and actually feel like my machine wasn't broken and discover that my Sunray probe isn't completely demon possessed ....:surprised:...
I thought well there goes the depth but ..... I can clearly get a good signal on an 8 - 9 inch deep quarter in my coin garden at 11 sensitivity, gain at 8, and deep off and can run the IM all the way to -6 , so I can live with that until I become more of a pro ..... or find better, cleaner soil .....

I know everyone has there own ideas and I may catch hell :stretcher:, but this is what is finally working for me ....... and maybe it will help somebody else who is thinking about giving up :surrender:.... Bill

Good post Bill. The biggest majority of my finds over the last 3 years or so have come with my sensitivity at a mellow semi auto 26. It has definitely found me my share of 8" to 10" deep coins.

What I prefer "hot" is my gain....but that's a whole different ballgame.
