Rusty bottle caps has been cover, but still have a question?

Went in to silencer upped it to 4, what effect will this have on depth? It did get rid of my rusty bottle cap problem though.

I would think that turning the silencer up you will lose a little depth the more you go up. But you will not be digging bottle caps. Depends on what you are hunting for and the area you are hunting if it will really matter. folks put to much in to depth. There are a huge number of good targets that are not deep. Separation from trash and iron is why I hunt with the Deus. If you want depth there are detectors that go deeper for sure. Would not worry about depth to much.

From my experiences the higher the silencer setting the more you will not hear good targets that are next to iron. If you find a hot spot, lower your settings and swing slow through that area and listen for the repeatable chirps. HH.

Dragging the coil back as you go left to right will give you a great audio signal that it is a cap and not a good coin. Caps really break up their audio report right before they drop off the coil.

Yes, increased SILENCER settings will reduce depth and most notably on the highest setting as the function is not linear. If you are in an area where rusted caps are 5" or less, then bumping it up to max can take care of them while picking up coins.

Another option is to create two identical programs with one with the SILENCER at your normal value (I tend to run at 1) and the other at MAX and save them side by side. Then if you get a TID that you think is a bottle cap, use the <+> or <-> touchpads to toggle to the program with the MAX setting and see if the signals disappears or breaks up . . . then go back to the normal program. Great way to use the touchpads

Yes in my experience upping the silencer does lose depth. That is one setting I don't touch. I prefer to do the drag bag method as I said for those. Fastest way to pin point as well.
