Hi,
I just took my Safari on a beach safari at the seashore last week. In a total of about 6 or 7 hours over several mornings, I found 49 quarters, 17 dimes, 1 nickel, 34 cents, an LED Flashlight (still works), some fishing sinkers and a bangle bracelet (appears to be gold, with about 50 small green emerald color stones). This was on a section of beach on which I saw several other detectorists hitting the same area.
I was extremely impressed that I was finding coins at 12 inches. I kept it in Coin & Jewelry Mode all the while, but next time I plan to experiment with different settings.
I found the bracelet in an area where I noticed the beach-raking tractors (appeared each morning at dawn) ended their runs at the side of a dune. I simply swept the side of the area and immediately found it (and also several quarters).
Deeply buried aluminum cans and pull-tabs still fooled me (showed up as a 37 or so). Cents were always a 33 or 34, quarters and dimes were 37 to 40. Bottle caps were a routine12 to 15.
I wonder if there is a difference in the depth ability in sand vs dirt. The sand there was extremely fine, but densely packed.
