Safari/Etrac

Neil

Well-known member
Does anyone know if the Safari IDs targets like the Etrac, using the same FE and CO numbers for similiar targets?

Looking to see how they are alike/not alike. I have the Etrac now.

Thanks,
Neil

Hi Neil,

I'm not sure about the Safari, but I'm assuming it's ID's would be the same as what the Quattro was. If this is the case then the Safari & the E-Trac would display different numbers. Below are the different numbers for the Quattro compared to the E-Trac for current Australian coins.

---------------- Quattro---------------------------E-Trac
1 cent---------F 37-------------------------- F 12 C 44
2 cent---------F 37-------------------------- F 12 C 46
5 cent---------F 13-------------------------- F 12 C 7
10cent--------F 16-------------------------- F 12 C 14
20 cent-------F 21-------------------------- F 12 C 23
50 cent-------F 29-------------------------- F 12 C 28
1 dollar-------F 35-------------------------- F 12 C 38
2 dollar-------F 35-------------------------- F 12 C 38

Note that the Quattro/Safari displays only the Ferrous values and these jump around depending on the target. On the E-Trac however which displays both the Ferrous and Conductivity values you will see that the Ferrous value is always 12 (Some debate about whether this is good or bad) but the Conductivity now changes depending on the target. There is some similarity between some of the numbers but basically the two detectors display the target information in totally different ways.

Hope this is of some help.

I sold off my SE, great machine, but I didnt want to be working against myself trying to remember numbers and smart find positions for both machines. I was hoping the Safari would be a cheaper backup(vs another Etrac) that would share the Etracs digital numbers and smartfind positions. I really cant tell by the Aussie coins youve got there(Im in NJ) but thank you. So far it looks like the Safari uses one number, not sure about the screen.

Thank you,
Neil

Neil,

The Safari has a totally different screen to the E-Trac, it doesn't have a Smart find display of any sort. Basically it displays the targets Ferrous value as a number and on a horizontal scale. Depending which search mode you are in it will also display a graphic giving its best guess as to what the target may be, ie, coin, nail, foil etc.

Every Minelab detector will give different numbers for different targets, it really doesn't matter if you are searching for Aussie coins or US coins, even the SE and the E-Trac have totally different numbers for the same target.

Basically if you want a backup detector that displays the same numbers as the E-Trac then you will have to buy another E-Trac.

That figures, at least if the digital numbers matched up it would be a serious consideration.

Thanks much Fortunehunter,
Neil
