Hi all
Just thought I`d relay my first experiences with the Safari, and lets just say I`m very impressed.
I`d never owned a detector prior to the Safari so was a bit overwhelmed at first when I took it for a test in the backyard. The backyard is certainly a high trash area so I ran the Safari in standard coin mode. Within a few minutes I`d hit a nice old 2 cent coin which came up with the clod, and found 2 others as well during my trial run in the backyard.
Following this it was on to the front yard, I didnt expect to find much here, but found 15 copper coins (all from 1970`s vintage) at depths varying from around 3' to 6' deep and a $2 coin as well. I use a Garrett Pro-pointer with the Safari and together they`re a great combo.
Yesterday was my first venture out with the Safari. It was getting late in the afternoon so had about an hour of daylight left when i got to the local river (freshwater) which has a reasonably large beach. I ran in All Metal Mode and within seconds had a deep signal. I started digging, and with the Garrett Pro-pointer at 14" found a 1976 20 cent coin, this Safari really does go deep. One thing i noticed in sand was, the deeper the coin was, the more sensitive and accurate the pinpoint was on the Safari. Within the next half hour I found three 5 cent pieces at various locations, depths were around 6' - 12".
It was rapidly getting dark so I flicked the Safari into Coin/Jewellery mode for my walk back across the sand to the car, I`d gotten a number of bottle caps using All Metal Mode and time wasnt on my side to dig another bottle cap. After a few paces I got a good signal showing so started digging. I dug in about 10" and then started using the Garrett. There was a slight signal so so dug some more and the Garrett started getting faster. At 12" i found a 1947 Australian Penny, it mustve been there for years!
When I have more time will head back to the river beach and grid it out properly, but for less than an hours searching yesterday I was most impressed with the Safari and its depth.
Cheers
Andy
