Thinking of going with a safari just a few questions does it have auto ground balance---if using a preset mode is the sensitivity pre -set--also discrimination.been relic hunting for 15yrs MXT but i; have heard some good thinngs about the Safari and thought i whould ask you guys for some help on this. Thanks Jim:thumbup:

You made a great choice. A great detector for sure. To answer your questions, its a turn on and go machine, with one exception and thats the noise cancelation feature. After you turn on the detector you need to noise cancel which is the feature where the Safari will choose a frequency to cancel out the surrounding electro-interference for smoother performance. You have to hold the machine still while it completes this operation and you should do this periodicaly through out your hunt to keep the Safari tuned for smooth performance. Next is choose your preset and go. As for the sensitivity, it is defaulted to Auto which you can change ( 1 thru 20) based on your ground conditions, I work with in 15 to 18 setting which works in my area. Do a bench test and play with the setting with a coin to see the difference in depth it makes but keep in mind when scanning the ground the depth is greater than the air. Adjust this for smooth operation with out the falsing and chatter. Once you learn the Safari prepare your self to dig some deep targets large and small. Enjoy and log in some learning hours with an open mind and it will reward you.

Thank you Hardtack:thumbup: the ground we do is dark soil and some fields in clay and sand.Is the discrimination also preset.I am looking forward to finding those deeper coins and buttons etc. Thanks a lot for your help .Jim :canadaflag:

There are 4 factory presets to choose from depending upon what your searching for. You can also customize your own or alter the factory setting and save it. This gives you 8 search modes . If you want to go back to the factory settings you can even if you save your custom setting ( see the operators manual).

I beg to differ that the Safari's in-ground depth on a coin is greater than the distance the Safari will bench (air) test on a coin. In my soil the Safari has an in-ground depth of about 7 to 8" on a quarter, while it will bench (air) test about 12" on a quarter.

It depends on your soil conditions like moisture which is a big one and how long the target has been in the ground and the minerals present in the ground. These have to do with conductivity which aid or hinder detection depth.
