Safari Jewelry ??

Those of you who own the Safari - how do you like it?
How you doing finding jewelry with it?

What's a good setting for that with the Safari.

I am debating the Safari or the AT Pro and wonder if the
extra $$$ are worth it.

Share your thoughts please!

It's up to you, I love the Safari and I used to have an AT Pro. The only reason I didn't like the AT Pro was because I couldn't read the screen as well because I hate wearing my glasses when it's hot cause I sweat on them. If the screen was bigger on the AT or I had better eyesight, I would have kept it.

The Safari is good, not great, on GOLD jewelry. Get silver under it and it screams. It will miss small gold like stud backings and petite gold chains. Me and mama just compared the Safari and ATpro the othe rnight on small gold and they are about even. I couldn't say what machine is better as I have yet to get out with the ATpro but I have to say that I have been really happy with my Safari

The Safari is great on gold and platinum jewelry and will hit thin gold wedding bands. I've never found any earrings or backs, but then again, haven't found those with my F75 either. If I would dig more low tones from 6 -12, I'm sure I would find more jewelry, but as my detecting time is limited, I usually skip those because of all the trash in that range.

Here's an older post about some jewelry finds: http://www.findmall.com/read.php?3,1768472,1768937#msg-1768937

I just finished my first Two hunts with my new Safari.........A salt Water Beach here in S,Cal and a Local soccer field......... First The Salt water Beach, two words, STABLE and DEEP.

Now the soccer field, Pinpoints dead on (very surprise for a dd coil) I was very surprise on the low conductors I was finding like 1/4 of a pull tab at 6-7 inch's.

let's face it anything smaller that 1/4 of a pull tab the scrap value $$$ is so low. I have owned other detectors that will hit on the micro jewelry

but there's a trade off, you must dig all foil hits, you think there's a lot of pull tabs out there, I got news for you, there's more foil !.

Real impressed with the Safari so far.

I have a zip-lock bag with just a fraction of my past finds in it that I let my 6 y/o grandaughter play with when she comes to visit. Here are the contents of the bag. Of course I don't let her play with the expensive items I have found though!!!
I just wanted to add my 2 cents and say that most of my finds have been with a Safari and some with my ATPro. My Safari has served me well and has paid for itself many times over and I just wanted to add that it is an awesome machine when it comes to all types of jewellery as you can see!

Wow! what an impressive collection. Mind sharing your settings - what mode are
you using - or do you use a custom setting?

I welcome your reply!

Thanks!....when you have detected for any length of time with most detectors, you will collect lot's of items like the stuff in the pic;. Not pictured are the many gold rings that my Safari has given me that I have either saved or sold to pay bills, paid for vacations or more detecting equipment etc;!
It's hard to tell someone what settings you use because each person has success with or prefers various settings. My settings and preferences might not work for you because of where you live.
I'm usually on one of the many stretches of beach here in Southern California so I usually detect in A.M. with sensitivity as high as possible without falsing. There are stretches of magnetite sand so ground balance often and keep the coil clean of that stuff! I try to 'read' the beach and I usually dig most everything except the low iron/trash minus numbers.
Parks are very different. 'Low and slow' You see guy's swinging their detectors like their throwing grass seed or fertilizer around.....way too fast and way too high! do you want to get new drops or deep silver? etc; I have different settings including custom ones that work for me but I would suggest going back in the posts on this forum and seeing what other highly successful detectorists's have already posted particularly from the State where you live. It really depends on where you live/soil conditions and what you want to detect for. The settings for detecting for relics and detecting for coins are different.
What has helped me is Andy Sabich's books. He is a highly sucessful veteran detectorist with many years under his belt and what is in his books will help you greatly. Nothing though beats getting out in the field and actually swinging your detector and learning for yourself.
What I can say is that IF there is a target in the sand/ground, your Safari will certainly let you know and then you decide if you want to dig or not! Good luck and happy hunting!....I'm off to the beach!
