Safari owners: where have silver coins come in on your screen?

Ray in WA

New member
I know where silver coins should come in at on the display screen, and I'm not a novice at finding silver coinage, but I'm wondering if perhaps silver coins might at times come in at lower numerical values on the Safari depending on the ground and how they are situated in the dirt, and that I might be missing some for lack of experience on FBS machines.

I've been digging everything else under the sun...indians, wheats, memorials, clad dimes and quarters, canadian pennies, jefferson and buffalo nickels, but no silver. I realize that I just might not have got my coil over a silver coin yet, but I've been over enough old sites since having purchased this machine that I should have at least ran over one silver merc by now.

Looking for comments from those who have actually found silver coins with the Safari.

Same here with my Quattro. In a few instances I had a solid 37 that was a merc or barber dime.
Good Luck,
Mark

Mine have been at 38 or 39, right up there with screw top lids! Some people claim to be able to hear the difference but I can't! Onus

I found a silver dime just two days ago, it was the last year for the silver. It read in at a solid 40, and never deviated from that number. It registered to the far right, and the beep was very high pitched and slight. While pinpointing, it pretty much stayed around 40, it was 8"+ in depth. Soil conditions and climate can also affect the numbers. The soil was wet compacted grass (as the snow and ice had just melted) the grass roots were tight to almost 3".
From 3-5" was wet loam from 5-9" wet sand and gravel mix, lots of moisture. The air temp was between 48-55 sunny with some occasional clouds,(I'm not trying to sound like a weatherman) but here in New England weathermen and women have it made. Where else can you be wrong on your job more than 50% of the time and still have a job? All kidding aside, the region of Western Massachusetts that I live in offers many very promising prospects as well as hundreds if not thousands of houses or properties 100-300 yrs old.

Thanks for the reply folks. I really don't think I'm missing any silver, I just think I haven't ran over any yet. I found a couple old aluminum Washington State tax toxens today and the day before (one had a date of 1935) on two separate lots. Both registered 38 on my screen consistently, and were down around 4-5 inches. Each time I thought I had a silver coin when I saw them pop out, only to discover they were tokens. Aargh!!
