SAFARI/QUATTRO DIFFERENCE TID #S ?

New member
I JUST GOT A USED SAFARI. CAME WITH THE SWABISCH QUATTRO BOOK. IT IS VERY HELPFULL. I WONDER THAT THE DIFFERENCES ARE BETWEEN THE TWO MACHINES.
WHEN I TRIED IT FOR THE FIRST TIME,CLAD PENNIES TID WAS 35-39. CLAD DIMES AND QUARTERS WERE IN THE SAME RANGE. A WAY TO TELL THE DIFFERENCE? THE CHIRPS ARE VERY DIFFERENT FROM MY XTERRA 305.I GUESS THIS IS SOMETHING TO LEARN AND GET USED TO.
I WOULD APPRECIATE YOU IDEAS OF THE BEST SET UP FOR COINS, ALSO LOW OR HIGH ,FERROUS OR CONDUCTIVE.
THANKS,JIM

Not much difference between the 2 detectors Jim, the Safari has a better coil and that is about it. Here is a link that will help you with TID numbers. http://www.findmall.com/read.php?3,1542365 Yes go slow and learn it. It will be worth it. They are really good detectors. I like looking for silver in the ferrous tones and I use the conductive to look for nickles. When I get lazy, I like to cherry pick and notch out everything but 13.14.15 and 32 through 39. Most of the time I hunt in relic ferrous tone mode.

JOHN, WHEN YOU ARE IN RELIC MODE, GO YOU FIND THAT THERE IS BETTER ID AND TONES BETWEEN PENNIES ,DIMES AND QUARTERS.

THANKS ALL,JIM

Jim when you hunt in relic or all metal mode with the Quattro/Safari you are hunting with ferrous tones. The tones for coins and other low ferrous objects will be a higher pitch, while all iron will make a low grunt tone. When you hunt in coins or coins and jewelry with the Quattro/Safari you are hunting in conductive tones. All high conductive objects will give you a high pitch tone including large pieces of iron. That is why I notch out the TID number 40 when I hunt in conductive tones because it ussually a big piece of iron. And that is why I like finding nickle in conductive tones because I will get the low tone for them. In ferrous tones I do not have to worry about getting a high tone for a large piece of iron and do not need to notch out the number 40. Check out this video here http://www.mlotv.com/view/594/safari-sounds/ it help me to understand about the two different tone modes.
