Safari & Sunray Probes

Tico

Member
I'm thinking about adding a Sunray probe on my Safari. I'm looking at trying to find a lightly used one.
My question is if I find just the probe is it something I can attach to the upper rod myself or do I have to send it to a pro to have it installed.
If I find one already attached to an upper rod, will all Explorer upper rods work on the Safari.
For instance there was an XS upper rod and probe sold on the classifieds for 100.00 but I missed it
Would that have worked on the Safari.
I would like to keep the color sceme with the black upper rod if possible

Good question Tico, I was thinking the same thing myself. It would be nice to have the probe already attached and ready to go. I'm sure somebody out there can help us. Ron :detecting:

After doing a little research according to the Sunray Website. The S & XS upper rods are not recommended on any of the other Explorer models including the Quattro & Safari. Seems the design was changed after the XS and may cause structural damage to the locking lug.
Also I found out that the SE, E-Trac & Safari Upper rods are all the same.
Now I just need to know if I can mount the probe control box or need to look for one already mounted on upper shaft

I'd like to see a diagram of how it is hooked up myself. Since the wiring is inside the shaft I am having trouble picturing how it would hook up. How about Sunray, got a diagram? Onus

The X-1 is always pre-mounted on a Minelab upper shaft - either yours or ours. We do not offer kits. All mounting is done by us. We install an enternal coiled cable for attaching the switch box to the detector control housing via a connector. All upper shafts from the Explorer II and forward - inlcuding the Quattro and Safari are identical except for the paint color. If you need more info call me. Thank you.
