Salt water Explorer

New member
Has anyone used their Explorer around salt water?

How good does yours work?

Any particular settings your using!

Thanks KCK/Ohio

Yes I've got a Expl II and used in it shallow water.. Mine works excellent

My settings are:
Sounds: Ferrous
Use Normal or Audio 3
Gain at 8 to 9
Iron Mask at -16 (No disc)
Go by sounds.. All high pitched are none ferrous targets.
Sens as high as possible, Manual.
Deep of course

If your having trouble getting it stable try Semi Auto.

That's what I use in/at water.

Good Luck!

Yeah man thats where I mostly use mine. The Explorer works super on salt water beaches. I use a lower iron mask setting, just knocking out small iron and run my sens up high, both manual and semi auto seem to work well. Ive been using the conductive sounds setting but whatever you like is what you should use.

Works great for salt water beaches. Just don't dunk the machine as it's not waterproof. Cover it with plastic if you're going to be hunting beach storm erosion during rains, etc.... Of course the coil is waterproof, so you can walk in and out of the lapping surf :)

As for the settings, just put it however you'd do a relicky site, where you intend to dig anything conductive. If it gets eratic, drop sens. down a bit. I run somewhere between 15 to 20, depending on the sand. If you're in mineralized sand, you'll have to drop down. You can tell mineralized sand by that it's more gunpowder grey-ish black in color. Cinimmon colored sand is moderately mineralized, and white sand is the least mineralized.

Thanks for all your reply's guys. I didn't to buy another metal detector yet! I've got 7. But nothing specifically for salt water or beach's. I'll try the explorer this year during vacation. And if I find a dab bloom or two ...hehehe I'll get me a xcal or something for the water ways.
I have Vaquero and Golden,Two Teknetics, and XLT But I've heard that most of them aren't much good there. I'll take the explorer and a couple standbys for the land search anyway.
Again many thanks for your wisdom and knowledge. It's been priceless
