Is there a difference in depth capabilities between the VCO and NORMAL mode of operation or is it just a personal preference? What is the advantage of one over the other?

I have not noticed a difference in depth between the two modes. So far I much prefer the VCO mode since I find it much easier to accurately pinpoint.
