looking for info on how to spot a chinese copy,
ive seen this info on one i have an intrest in

SPECIFICATIONS

Searchcoil Type Printed Spiral
Searchcoil Size 10

Get a picture or view it in person. The Chinese copy that I've seen on e-bay did not look like the Tesoro. There is a good picture of the faceplate and detector box of the real one on the Tesoro web site at: http://www.tesoro.com/product/detectors/tigershark/index.html

The copy that had the Sand Shark name had a round body and the coil was not a thin flat disk with a hole in the center, it was a spider web type coil with outer and inner loops connected.

The printed spiral coil is kind of unique to Tesoro.

It looks like the specifications you have are from the Tesoro web page except that they missed the last part of it.
The web page has:

SPECIFICATIONS
Operating Frequency 600 pps
Searchcoil Type Printed Spiral
Searchcoil Size 8" or 10

Yes the Chinese Sand Shark with the cylindrical body is actually an VLF that operates at approx 2.4khz.It is a piece of crap. It goes by several different names. Leave it alone. Don't go near it, I wouldn't touch it with a 40 foot barge pole. Avoid it like the plague. Give it a big miss. etc, etc.

If it is from Staffs metal detectors, then it is safe to buy. I bought and traded many detectors with that guy.
