Sash buckle?

Recently found this adjacent to a Middle Georgia battlefield in area of Shermans march. old housesite in pulpwoods cut. I think it is a sash buckle 2 1/2 by 2 1/2 stamped brass. I HAVE SEEN ONE OF THESE POSTED BEFORE ON A FORUM, AND NOW CANT FIND IT! I believe it is Cupid riding a dolphin holding a spear, as depicted on a site of an old Greek mural, with him and his mother Venus- water connected, on a dolphin too. the animal was drawn the same with the twisted tail but dolphin fork. He had the spear in this mural. only one story which lead to his "Fame" had the bows and arrows. THERE WAS A BIG DEBATE OF SEA MONSTER, DRAGON, CHERUB, TRIDENT WHATEVER. Now i have found a mural depicting the same thing that was ancient artifact. they say dolphin and Cupid. my question is was it a sash buckle, ladies, man's, gift to carry to war, Cracker Jack box gift LOL! whatever? . anyone know?

It definitely looks old to me. I see what appears to be an attachment portion on the reverse. Never came across on like this before but have a few books to reference  cch

this was an old housesite within walking distance, not to far, from Griswoldville in Georgia. Bud says sash buckle, i dont know except i saw the same one on a form and there was a debate on what it was and what was depicted. now wondering what to do with it. its very light weight stamped, not heavy brass. i guess junk box. still was cool. thanks and any help appreciated.
