SAT control

Hi help needed
I am trying to get my head around the controls on the Gold Quest SS. I have used it about half a dozen times now, but can't figure out what the SAT control gives me. I have read the intructions and adjusted it to about 3 0,clock as we we have a lot of black sand around my area. The simple truth is where ever I set it doesn't seem to make any diffrence.
What are the neative side of having the SAT maladjusted and how do i recognise the fact that it is badly adjusted. I can use the machine and achieve a relatively smooth threshold with the reject at about 7 to 8 o,clock.
Is there a way to tell the difference between a deep target and a very small target close to the surface.

I will leave your SAT uestions to the PI Experts here on the Forum.
But I may be able to help with your large vs small target question. With any Threshold based detector whether it's a PI or a VLF a normal sized deep target will have a wider and softer sound than a shallow small target. The small shallow target will usually be narrower and have somewhat more defined edges to it's sound. It's takes awhile to train your ears to the very subtle differences...meaning you have to dig alot of targets before you will be able to readily hear the difference and even then you will get fooled very now and then. Hope this helps!

Hi Jack,
You will have a bit more sensitivity towards the outer fringes of detection with the SAT set to slow. On most targets there will not be any discernible difference. If you check a small target very deep you will see a slight difference.
Try to keep your reject close to MIN as much as possible and make any fine tuning adjustments with your SAT. When all else fails turn your SAT to FAST if conditions don't allow otherwise. The Goldquest will not miss any good targets. You will be amazed at the depth you will achieve on a small gold ring!
Just keep your threshold where you can barely hear it. The settings you are currently using are fine. Don't be afraid to adjust things up or down a bit if you must. If there is gold under your loop believe me you will get it.
