Sat field finds

Mark in S.E. IA

New member
We have some sun today so I was able to take a picture of my finds from Sat. It's not much but I'll take it. I got a real crusty 1865 IH, 2 wheat's that are not in the pic, a token good for 5 cents at "The Bar", a # 8 crotal bell and the best finds of the day, the 2 clay marbles.

It rained all day Sunday so I'm not sure when I will be able to get back in that field. I hope their is a few more good finds out there..

 Not bad at all mark!
I really like the intact crotal bell.

The weather here didn't cooperate this weekend, and it's not looking much better for the next week either. I'm afraid that my window of opportunity for hunting fields is rapidly closing.

Gotta love old tokens!

Looks like rain most of the week here. Atleast you got out for a bit! That bell looks to be in nice shape! Cool token too!

I have seen marbles pictured before and assumed they are found while detecting...not with a detector?!....Then I thought they might have lead or some other detectable alloy in them?...Clay marbles are found how?

The marbles were a eyeball find on top of the ground, lol

The field I was in use to have a farm house there up until the 1940's. I also find marbles where their use to be a 1RSH and some times in yards when digging a coin and get lucky an see a marble in the hole.

I just looked a bit more closely at your bell, and the design on it makes it a "Petal Bell".
All of the crotals I find have the mount broken.

Thanks Longhair,

I just did a lil research and I have a 8 Petal bell and the petals touch. Made from 1845 to 1920's

Earlier today I was talking to Terry and he told me that my marbles are Bennington marbles. so i checked it out and sure enough they are. it's a German made marble.

I learn something new everyday, lol
