Sat road trip finds

Mark in S.E. IA

Sat I took one of my "run n gun" road trips. Thur an Fri night I planned out a route and did a lil research on the towns I planned on stopping at. If I do not find at least a wheat at a place in the first hour I'm there I load up and hit the road to the next place.

The first two places I was at I wasn't at them for much over a half before I decided it was time to hit the road. Not that I'm looking for clad but their wasn't even a clad penny to be found at those two places, somebody cleaned those places out, but good.... That's a bad sign when I'm looking for old coins. Then it started to rain and boy did it rain. I got to the next place and it was still raining and I really liked the looks of this place. It was a block wide and 2 blocks long and only a few trees, that's my kind of place, wide open. Most ppl do not like to MD those kind of places in the summer because their is no shade and since their is no shade trees there now then their was no shade trees there 50 or 100 years ago. It was still raining so I passed on that place, I might go back there someday tho.

I went on down the road to the next place in hopes of getting out of the rain and I didn't and I didn't really care for the place anyhow, just did not look right, lol. So off to the next town. When I found the park in the next town I was all excided, now this place has everything I look for in a good place to MD, location, location, location, and a few other things, lol and I didn't do any research on this place because it was not on my planned route. It was still raining and I looked off to the west and it looked like it was clearing some so I looked at the map to see how far the next town to the west was and their was one not too far down the road so I went there and the rain had stopped by then. I found the park and it was a nice park but it had standing water all over the place and I just was not in the mood to get muddy. It must of rained hard in that town and I really wanted to MD that other place so I went back in hopes that the rain had stopped by then and it did, boy was I happy, lol. I'm not going to tell you all the things that I like about this park but I really wanted to MD it real bad like, lol

I'm glad I went back to this park and here are my finds for about 3 hours of MD at this park before the rain returned and I called it a day. In the one picture you will see 2 wheat's with tape on them. I found 5 wheat's in a hole and they were taped together. The cataholic medal is silver plated.

Looks like a very predictive road trip there Mark.
You found some nice items in that park and some nice variety too!!
Looks like you are warming up to that 505 and making some great finds... those days don't come too often when you find coins
like you have pictured.

Nice finds Mark!
I really like that Barber and the KG dime.

Looks like you had a good trip. With finds like that I'd say you should plan another trip soon!
