Saturday's Finds!

Went to Island Park in Fargo, ND. and spent a little over an hour there looking for some old coins. I managed to find only one and it was an 1889 Indian Head. It registered in at 27 on digital and I thought it was a Wheatie. It sounded good but you really had to go slow over it to get a good signal. I dug the hole and found the Indian and I covered the hole back up and swung the detector over the plug and it gave a solid null. I guess that is why it read higher on the meter. After detecting there for a while, I decided to go give the hot spot that I have been finding some nice finds at a try. I found another 4 Silver which included 1 Barber Dime (with full liberty) dated 1910 and 3 Mercury Dimes dated 1919-d,1934-d, and 1945-d. The 45-d has full bands on the back and still has the mint luster from the day it was dropped. Too bad it wasn't an older Merc but I can't complain about it. I also found 2 Tokens. The first Token reads "Loaned For Amusement Only", Property Of O.K. Vender" and the other Token reads "Good For 5 Cents In Trade", E.J. McHugh ******, N.D. I had to cover the town name since it gives the location of the site that I am working. Sorry Fella's!!! I also found a Buffalo Nickel dated 1925-d and it is one of the better dates to find. The Nickel has full horns on the back and I have a front and back pic below. I also found a few more Wheats dated (3)1910,1916,1924-d (which is a good date) 1934-d,1935-d,1942-d,1944-d,1945-d,1949, and 1958-d. Isn't a bad haul for a couple hours of work and hope to find a few more today. Buffalo is very nice and the token is great too..and you must have close to a hundred silver already this year...

Nice finds James. You are sure plucking them out of the ground. I got out yesterday for an hour and found 5 wheats and 1 merc. I was crawling, if I'd been going any faster I would have missed all of these. I have been over this ground before.

I am glad you are finding a few keepers Jon. This is the technique that I am using at the site I am hunting right now and it is amazing that if you go just a bit faster, that you would walk right over top of coins without even knowing it. Congrat's on your finds and maybe you could sometime post your finds. It is always nice to see others finds no matter how little or how big. Good Luck buddy and hope you keep pulling some nice older coins.

I am not sure of how many silver I have this year but will let everyone know sometime soon on how many so far. Thanks for the reply Jack, and yes, the Buffalo and the Token are in good shape. Good Luck and HH on your next time out.

I was going to Fargo so Tim ask me to stop by and he would show me his finds for Saturday and being it looked good he slept in his car and went back out on Sunday morning for a while. He didn't say where he went, but it looks like it is a virgin spot that is a ways away from here in northern ND and possibly west being there is some more than normal Canadian coins.He told me he left a lot of the penny signals as he just didn't have the time to dig them all. In with the finds I seen a couple of Memorial pennies too, so this area must still be used a little.

here is what he found.
14 mercs
13 barber dimes
3 Canadian quarters (2) 1909 and a 1910
4 silver quarters
1 barber quarter
7 silver rosies
1 walking lib half
3 IH pennies
83 Wheaties
3 tokens he grabbed before I seen where they come from.
I coin the size of a silver dollar that is copper that if I read the roman numeral right is a 1953 and a picture of Queen Elizabeth and something about coronations.
This is Saturdays and Sundays find with a total of around 10-12 hours of detecting as he stayed over night at the town he got them from.
That if I counted right is 43 pieces of silver, not bad for him, but sure hopes he takes me with one of these times.
Between Tim and you you will have raped the ground of all the nice coins.

I think I know where you found your coins at on Saturday, a spot you were at last summer and maybe this summer too up north were it seems all the good coins are at and where a Minelab has never been, other detector possibly,but not a Minelab

Thanks Eddie! I just wish I would have gotten out sooner instead of late in the day but I did get a few nice coins and that is all that counts. Hope you find your share of the goodies and can't wait until you finally post when you find that elusive Seated coin of yours.

Still think the northern great plains have lots of potential. Settled 1870s, population peaked 1910s, little development since. Sounds like Tim is doing some good research.

I want to play; wish I hadn't torn up my house. Have to put it back together. Will let you guys know if I can pull together a road trip.
