Scorpion ground balance or re tune?????? :ausflag:

Just been talking to a friend who has a mineral claim out of town and after a couple of trips have had no luck as of yet. He says it is the most difficult ground to detect for any machine so re tune the scorpion regularly. I keep picking up pockets of cretaceous sediment (siltstone) so do i ground balance on one of these to take it out of play or just hit the re tune button on it?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah man, sometimes just pressin' the retune button for a second will help to re-establish the threshold. However, if that's not enough, then you need to ground balance. If you do ground balance over these pockets of silt, it would be wise to ground balance again when you get passed it and back to the surrounding ground. In difficult ground you will need to ground balance frequently, but if you pass the search coil over any little nuggets, you won't miss 'em. Just go slow and take your time. Best of luck to ya! Wonder if over this type of soil one would balance positive or negative? And stubborn ground requires constant balancing.

My advice on the Scorpion with little ironish pockets is to switch to disc mode when you hit the pocket to see if it is metal. (I set my disc on 6-6.5, this is the iron threshold where it will just begin null iron out) If it goes off of course its metal in disc mode most likely, and if its much louder its higher conductivity target than iron with the disc setting I mentioned. A half gram nugget should still be detected with the disc set on 6-6.5 but smaller ones will probally be disc out

Also I use the TR Disc mode to test these pockets, the ones that are positive that is, as they will go dead in TR Disc mode just like a hot rock. I wouldnt rebalance on the pocket as you will be out of bal for the rest of the surrounding area.

Also, disturb some of the dirt and see if the pocket goes away after moving it all around abit. Like with your boot or pick/shovel.

This machine is like driving a stick shift, got to keep tinkering with it and testing it out on these pockets/targets to see what she is telling you.
