Scorpion noise????

Hi all

Went to a mates lease today with the scorp and tried it out on what he calls his "free beer sample" . If your detector cant hear it, its a free beer to Dave. The scorpion thankfully can hear it so no free beer but when I am out on the patch I cant hear anything but hot rocks. :-(. His son has a 4500 and found some small nuggets today!!!! :-( IS THE SCORPION capable of finding these small nuggets? which i believe it can do, or am i having trouble distinguishing the faint signals of the small nuggets???????????????

I have attached a pic of the free beer sample which i can detect on clear ground, so does the mineralisation of the patch upset the scorp too much to find the good stuff????

The Scorpion will find the small stuff but from the sound of your area you may need to use
the 3X5 coil. Ground Balance has to be right on ( check it every few feet if needed )
and you may have to cut back on the depth control ( don't be afraid of loosing gold doing this
as I may help to find more.) The idea is to over come the mineralization but not loose the sensitivity
( GB + Depth Control + 3x5 coil = GOLD )

Yeah, the Scorp can easily find match head sized nuggets. Of course , as mentioned by XT18000, the 3"x7" search coil will be more sensitive to smaller nuggets.
I doubt that the mineralization caused you to miss small nuggets. The Scorp can handle heavy mineralization and I know that you know how to ground balance properly.
Now, that Minelab GPX4500 (which costs about ten times more than the Scorpion, by the way) isn't affected by mineralization or hot rocks at all, so with the time he saved by not having to re-ground balance and check hot rocks, he was able to find some tiny nuggies. Good for him. Don't get discouraged by getting beat out by a high dollar machine. Go slow and take your time. You'll find some nuggets.
Who knows? You may even find another "Hand of Faith" sized nugget. That was found by a Garrett metal detector with the Groundhog circuit(same as Scorpion). Happy Hunting!:)

Groundhog (15kHz) circuit is renowned over the world for its power in driving through ground minerals to pinpoint the tiniest gold nuggets. It was this circuit that started the detector gold rush in Australia and discovered the famed

According to this Australian article, the Hand of Faith was found by an ADS Deepseeker John.
Other sources say The Ground Hog found it. Maybe we should email Garrett for the true facts? Charles will know for sure.

"AMERICAN VERSES AUSTRALIAN DETECTORS. ## How many times have you heard some dealers say to buy only Australian detectors as the American detectors have not been designed for our conditions and won't work. Beware of this statement as it is not correct and there could be some ulterior motive behind it. Tell the many users, including professionals, that their detectors will not work because they are American made, and be prepared to be laughed at and possibly some other comments. The Whites Goldmaster II and the new VSAT detector happens to be one of the most used detectors in Australia for locating the smallest pieces of gold. The Fisher Goldbug is about seven years old and has been quite successful here with many numerous finds to its credit. Tesoro detectors have made their presence felt in Australia, and the latest detector, the Dingo was specially designed for our conditions. The Garrett Scorpion has proved itself in the goldfields many times over. A professional in N.T. has purchased a second Scorpion due to the gold being found with it. If you look at past records, more gold has been found in Australia with the Garrett A2B / Groundhog series detector than any other machine. The A2B was the first detector by Garrett, to be designed for our conditions ( that is what the "A" stands for).
This is still currently one of the most popular detectors of the earlier designs.

*** Remember, the largest nugget known as "The Hand of Faith", was found in Victoria, by Kevin Hillier with a Garrett Deepseeker which is an American Detector.***

There were other American detectors previously available in Australia, but didn't shape up so well. This is why they are no longer sold here. The saying, "Time Will Tell", is true and if the American detectors didn't work here, they would not still be available and professionals would not still be using them. This is the same with the coin detectors. Both American and Australian detectors should be considered when purchasing a detector. A detector should be selected for the persons requirements and not just on Brand alone."
