What can I expect to miss hunting in the factory presets?

<center> Nothing if you can go back over it again as you spend time and learn the unit
Its a good and safe way to start with many units
the Explorer being one of them

But as you become use to the settings and unit adjust slowly so you learn what each setting will do good or bad

Steve, using factory settings does notch things out but it's meant to put a new user on a good finds ratio. You will hear the threshold null out quite often but that also depends on the site you're hunting.
Any target that would fall in the blackened out area will cause the threshold to null.
But it's GREAT place to learn and is where MOST good non ferrous targets hit inside the accepted window. MInelab programmed the Explorer that way for a good reason

We'll cover it after the holidays are over and you have some free time to spend.

Greetings, StehhenA I totally agree with Mike on factory settings. You may want to lower the factory threshold until it is barely audible. I used the factory settings for about six months, and found just as many good targets as I do now. If you intend to RELIC HUNT, then the only other thing to change is the IRON MASK. For relic hunting you do not want to discriminate, run wide open. Happy Hunting Grounds,
