SE vs E-trac

I've been reading all the comments lately since I've been trying to decide which detector to buy. Seems from what I've read, the Explorer SE probably has the best ID...would that be right? I'm not trying to stir things up, just trying to choose the best detector for my type of hunting as I'm tired of digging small rusty nails, rusty tin and rusty crown caps. Also it would seem to me that ferrous tones would be the way to go and from what I've read, the e-trac lacks in that area. I realize the e-trac processor is faster and the detector's ergonomics might be better, but I'm looking for the best ID. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks, Ray Hogan in Waco, TX. Ray...My opinion on that is the Jury is still out. I have both the SE and the ET. I am not a good proficient user of either. Without the Pro Coil or a SunRay coil, the SE is a beast. I couldn't even use it with the stock coil. AFter I put the SR on it, I started to find some stuff. On the other hand the ET has a learning curve but it is not as steep as the SE. If you knew for sure you'd stick with that long learning curve, unless you have a SE Garu living near you, IMHO the SE set to ferrous and swinging in all metal might be better. Haven;t seen an effective ferrous set-up with the ET. Also, the SE can be purchased used from some sponsors on this forum or from this forums classifieds at a lot lower price than the ET. Chances are it will have the coil issue solved and may even have a good probe with it. Then if you don't like the learning curve you could sell it and maybe not lose anything except the shipping. If you go to the ET, be sure to look at the forum section on others recommendations for a place to purchase. There are differences and it pays to shop. Many claim superior finds in iron infested areas with the ET. Jim

I have both, but little time to use them and no hours on the ET yet. Many users report much more stable operation than the SE. Minelab states that the ET will outperform the Explorer. I believe them and am looking forward to getting out with mine soon!
