It does drag a bit more. I feel you can tell the target hits better with it. The 8 inch coil reads the wave real tight sounding but the bigger coil seem to soften it. You will lose some sensitivty to small gold but gain a few on bigger gold. just my opinion,Joe

Regarding drag, the 14" drags a bit more but you cover much more ground, you gain much more than you loose.
